yeah they suck at itcapable_keL wrote:rebuild? they have one of the oldest rosters in the AL
you could give them Kershaw and Trout and they'd still miss the playoffs by 10 games

Watching the Yankees game. Look at that lineup. Holy shit. Chris Young. Stephen Drew. I remember when they showed a lot of promise six years ago.

have to swing slower vs a 100mph fastball lolTommy Bunz wrote:this was linked in Brisbee's recent Bonds article....peak Barry vs. peak Gagne. So awesome.

best part was how he just crushes the next pitch, like he finished figuring him out
He finished 8th in MVP voting in 98 with this statline .303/.438/.609, honestly if it wasn't for his knee injury in 99 he would have deserved every single one from 90-04. Maybe 1-3 years he'd finish 2nd instead.

That Pillar catch is awesome but I think the Arenado one I posted was even better.

i disagree. it's a very good catch, but pillar's catch was better. springer's too for that matter.Tommy Bunz wrote:That Pillar catch is awesome but I think the Arenado one I posted was even better.

Re: 2015 MLB Season
Arenado was basically running blind willie mays style and had a split second to locate it as it came over his head, then dangerously hit the tarps full speed and did a flip and a simultaneous 180 to his knees on top of the tarp and made a dead-on throw to third that should've been a double play if the shortstop didn't drop it.
Way more dangerous than robbing a homerun and very arguably a more difficult play. You see guys rob homeruns all the time. You don't see guys doing over their head basket catches into the stands ever.

Re: 2015 MLB Season
hey, we're allowed to disagree. i make those over the head, running backwards catches in slow-pitch 5 times a summer. granted i don't run as fast, run into tarps (or slow down very fast anymore, haha) or get paid to be totally awesome at something. but to me that's why arrenado's catch is slightly less impressive.Tommy Bunz wrote:Arenado was basically running blind willie mays style and had a split second to locate it as it came over his head, then dangerously hit the tarps full speed and did a flip and a simultaneous 180 to his knees on top of the tarp and made a dead-on throw to third that should've been a double play if the shortstop didn't drop it.

a guy scaling a 12 foot wall with perfect timing to bring back a ball 340 feet from home plate strikes me as the better play. arrenado's was in foul territory. if he doesn't make the play, eh, another strike and they go again. pillar/springer were keeping runs off the board, and in springer's case saved the game.

Re: 2015 MLB Season
yeah its not just the catch though, its the whole play, hitting the stands full force and doing a flip onto his knees on a round surface and somehow making a great throw all in one motion. The catch itself is not as hard, obviously.
Anyways, its not worth arguing this much about

this happened at the nats game yesterday:
96 mph fastball. they had to stop play for a good 5 minutes.
