Basketball star Brandon Ashley, a 6-foot-8 power forward, is transferring from Bishop O'Dowd High to Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev., for his senior season. His mother, Lashiem Clark, and Findlay Prep coach Michael Peck confirmed the move Thursday.

Ashley is in Chicago for the Amar'e Stoudemire Skills Academy and could not be reached for comment.

"He will develop at a faster rate and also at a steady rate," Clark said of the motivation to transfer. "Most importantly, the academic move is lateral."

Clark and Ashley recently visited Findlay Prep and were sold on the idea of transferring.

"We both fell in love," Clark said. "We just think it's a good move for him. Not to slight Bishop O'Dowd at all. It's a great school. We can't say one bad thing about them."

Ashley is ranked by ESPN as the No. 6 overall prospect in the 2012 class and the No. 2 overall power forward. He helped the Dragons reach the California Interscholastic Federation Division III boys state championship game the past two years.

"Obviously, he's a very talented basketball player," Peck said. "What's even more important is he's just a solid person. A good kid, good student, he's well-rounded and has a great support system with his mom back at home."

Peck said the players Ashley will face daily in practice and throughout the Pilots' competitive schedule should help prepare him for college.

"From a playing standpoint, it's going to make him better,"

Peck said. "He's not going to have to wait for the one game every eight or nine games where he's got someone to challenge him. He'll see that every day in practice."

Findlay Prep is a basketball academy, and the players attend the Henderson International School. The team plays a national schedule, and the players live together in a large home near the school.

Bishop O'Dowd coach Doug Vierra spoke warmly about Ashley, whom his team will certainly miss.

"Brandon's been a huge part of our basketball family for the last three years and a huge part of our success," Vierra said. "I think I'm not alone in speaking well of him and his time with us. Everybody on the team wishes him well for his future."

Ashley averaged approximately 15 points and 10 rebounds for O'Dowd this season and was a first-team All-East Bay selection for the second straight year. Cal-Hi Sports named Ashley its Division III state player of the year and the junior player of the year.

His season was capped with a 28-point, eight-rebound performance in a 64-59 state title game loss to Lutheran-La Verne in which he was lauded for his performance against Grant Jerrett, a 6-8 Arizona commit to whom he's been compared.

Ashley is the second East Bay player in recent years to transfer to Findlay Prep. Jabari Brown transferred from Salesian in the summer of 2009 and played half a season with the Pilots before moving back home and enrolling at Oakland High. Brown led the Wildcats to the Oakland Section title this year and will attend Oregon in the fall.
This will be big for Ashley's development. Findlay Prep is the west coast answer to Oak Hill Academy. If everything stays true to form, Ashley could be playing with Winston Shepard, Anthony Bennett, Nigel Williams-Goss, and Landen Lucas. All of them will be seniors in the fall except for Williams-Goss who will be a junior. They can all play and have a plethora of choices to choose from as far as where they want to go to college.

If ESPN is smart, they will put the game between Bishop Gorman and Findlay Prep on TV next season. The schools are not too far apart from each other and the played a double-overtime game last year on UNLV's campus with Findlay Prep winning by three.

Bishop Gorman is going to be highly ranked in the fall too. Besides Shabazz Muhammad, they have Rosco Allen, Ben Carter, Demetris Morant, and Shabazz's younger brother, Rashad. They also have a big offensive lineman named Ronnie Stanley who patrols the middle for them who has a lot of football schollies on his docket to decide on. The returning players I mentioned are going to be seniors in the fall, except for Rashad Muhammad who will be a junior.

I'm not sure if there is a game on the official schedule yet or if they play each other often, but after last year's game, they should make it happen yearly. Findlay is a new school that's not even 10 years old, but so far they have produced four NBA draft picks in: Avery Bradley, Tristan Thompson, Cory Joseph, and DeAndre Liggins. Expect Myck Kabongo to be the fifth. Out.
I've had this game on my calender for a minute. Findlay doesn't haven't Landen Lucas anymore, but they are still nice with UCLA decommit/Oregon commit, Dominic Artis running the show.

If you don't watch high school basketball as a hoops junkie, consider this a fair warning to reconsider for this game. There will be so many D1 prospects on both sides and perhaps some future pros too. Out.

Where are they going Breeze? Call it now!

I find it very hard to believe Calipari would show up to the recruiting special if he didn't think he was a lock for at least one of the two. Stranger things have happened I guess.

Didn't see this til now, but obviously Muhammad is a Bruin now and I was confident that it could happen.

I think Noel goes to the 'Cuse and Anthony Bennett goes to UK.

Those are my predictions.

And congrats to UK and wheels for snagging Noel. Syracuse had been all over him for years. With the Cats winning the chip last week, it pushed them over the top.
That was a big get for Calipari, hoping Bennett or Oriakhi come with him

^ Looks like Oriakhi is going to transfer to another breed of cat. He's going to be a Mizzou Tiger.

Switching gears, just watched my DVR of the recent Nike Hoops Summit from last Saturday, and I'm convinced that Andrew Wiggins could score 20 points a game as a seventeen-year-old. He could win ROY right now, no bullshit. Dudes game is NBA ready. He is the youngest person to play in the NHS. Word is is that he's looking to reclassify to join the 2013 class from the 2014 one. Jabari Parker better watch out. Out.

#1 class in the nation. Pleasebelieveit.

I expect current members on the team to seek transfers soon or sometime during the season when their playing time dwindles.

My concern with Bazz is that he's a trigger happy, black hole type of player. I'm hoping he embraces the team concept and won't try to shoot 25 times a game. He still needs to work hard on his handle and perimeter shooting.

Kyle Anderson is a helluva playmaker. He's got SF size and a PG game. I hope Larry Drew II doesn't think that just because he transferred from UNC and is a senior that he's gonna be running shit. He's a fucking reject and needs to play the background.

Tony Parker and Josh Smith need to consult a nutritionist and hit the gym together. They can play, but would be best served to drop a lot of weight.

I think Jordan Adams will be the sleeper of the class coming in. He's a bit heavy too, but he can shoot from all over the floor.

UCLA now has 7 MDAA on the roster. Howland needs to melt the pot and get the most out of them. Last year was a bad look all the way around and he does know he's on thin ice. Those three Final Four trips are but a memory. Out.

yea wiggins is the real deal. can't even point to poor comp in canada cuz his team travels everywhere and cuz he goes crazy any time he is up against top comp (like at the nike summit that you mentioned where he led the world team to a victory over a bazz-led usa team i might add)

wiggins will be a top 2 pick for sure at this rate

interesting article about his dad and him

yo breeze his dad handpicked clovis west out in fresno...what you know about clovis west?
I read about this guy in ESPN the Magazine a couple of months back.

Clovis West is an okay program, but it is definitely not the top program in the state and never has been. It's located in Central Cali and there isn't much happening out there. If Jerry Love wanted to come to Cali, he could have came down to the LA area like Renardo Sidney and his family did when they came from Mississippi. If Love's father wanted real comp, he could have had his son go to Mater Dei, Westchester, Taft, or even St. John Bosco. I would have said Dominguez where Tayshaun Prince, Tyson Chandler, and Brandon Jennings went to among others, but their program hasn't been the same since Coach Russell Otis got convicted of some child molestion pedophile bullshit a few years back.

I haven't read this new article yet, but from what I remember reading from ESPN the Mag, Love's father was thinking about transferring somewhere else. If Love really wants to see his son make it, he needs to send him to one of these basketball factories like, Findlay Prep, Oak Hill or one of those prep schools in the New England area.

Wanna talk about Sidney for a minute. Sidney was the best sophomore in the country when he played with James Harden at Artesia High in Lakewood. Keep in mind that this is the same class that includes DeMarcus Cousins, Derrick Favors, John Henson, and John Wall among others. At that time, you could have even said that Sidney had more potential than Harden. He was 6-9, about 230-240 and in SHAPE. He could do it all. Dude transferred to Fairfax High for his last two years of high school and has never been the same since. He bought into his hype and stopped working hard.

Harden on the hand had a strong work ethic and has blossomed into more of a player than I thought he would be. He is still the same showboating, trash talking player that he was in high school and it's to no surprise that he gets underneath the skin of a lot of players in the NBA. To me that elbow he got from Artest (I refuse to come him Peace) was intentional and is a product of him being a pest.
