2010 NHL Stanley Cup (Flyers vs. Blackhawks) Thread
Should be a good one. I WANT the Flyers to win, I think the Hawks could probably take this to the distance. Game 1 goes to Philly. High scoring series with the Hawks winning in 7 (I hope not).

Definitely. Game could've gone either way, but the Flyers paid for that shorthanded goal they gave up. If this is any indicator, this is gonna be a fun series.Kalel wrote:This is going to be a great series. If nothing else the Flyers shown they can hang with the Hawks.
Compared to periods 1 and 2, period 3 was a veritable scoring drought.

They have been doing that at every game since the 80's. Before the Hawks got good again, the anthem was pretty much the only reason to go see them.Kalel wrote:Crowd is so loud in Chicago you can barely hear the guy singing the national anthem.
As for the game, the Hawks seemed all out of sorts and sloppy in the first 2 periods but appeared to have their shit together in the 3rd. I don't expect the rest of the series to resemble that game, but who knows.

Leighton wasn't the only guy shook out there. Most of the players were. Guys were falling, poor choices int he neutral zone, weak turnovers. I think now that this 1st game is out of the way, we'll see some fairly tight hockey throughout the cup. Pretty entertaining game, but sloppy.
Sticking with Hawks in 7.

I think both goalies looked shook in game 1. Leighton was obviously nervous but Niemi was bobbling some shoot-ins and easy shots too. I can't believe Chicago scored 6 goals and their top line hit nothing but 0's on the scoresheet. The secondary scoring, especially by Chi-town, was huge in this game.
Sloppy first period. Still concerned with Leighton's rebound control, iffy PK, poor execution on the PP, and definitely got out-hit by the Blackhawks.
Also, I will say this for certain: if Dan Carcillo was not a Flyer, I would hate the fuck outta him. He's a loudmouth scumbag, tries to draw borderline or nonexistent penalties (no way that glove to the face should've snapped his head back)... but he's a Flyer, so I just cackle about his antics, and move along- as long as he doesn't keep it up to the detriment of the team.

Two preventable goals there. One definitely on Leighton's shoulders, the other on the defense out in front of the net.
Niemi's save on Asham makes that second an entirely different animal, as the Flyers seemed in control to that point. Need to capitalize on the power play to have any hopes of getting back into it.
The one thing I did like was the sense of urgency the team seemed to have after that second goal beat Leighton. The only thing is, a sense of urgency isn't on the stat sheets, nor the scoreboard. Gotta go get those goals back.

The difference in game 2 is the Ben Eager goal that Leighton just whiffed on. Let that be evidence: your mistakes will come back to haunt you.
No fewer than 4 "OMG" chances in the third, most notably the one that was in the air for Gagne. Also a pretty tough whistle on a puck drifting through the crease courtesy of a stickless Antti Niemi. I'm disappointed in the effort prior to the two goals given up, as there was some solid play, but it all felt... empty.
Hopefully we can return to Chicago with the series tied.
