Yankees owner George Steinbrenner dies at 80

Post by Ramen »

NEW YORK ג€“ George Steinbrenner, who rebuilt the New York Yankees into a sports empire with a mix of bluster and big bucks that polarized fans all across America, died Tuesday. He had just celebrated his 80th birthday July 4.
Steinbrenner had a heart attack, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, Fla., and died at about 6:30 a.m, a person close to the owner told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team had not disclosed those details.

-A sports icon, but an overrated owner. The late 90s yankees got off the ground because of his suspension.

-Glad Yoggi outlived him.

-An asshole and a criminal, but also very charitable.

Peace to the boss. I bet he buys all the best players for his field of dreams team.

In a lot of ways I think he was responsible for fucking up baseball by creating the out of control spending habits that has since caused the haves versus have-nots era where the big money teams are always contenders and the smaller markets become little more than talent farms.

That said, he won. I would say at what cost to the game did he get his wins, but again, he won. So props for that.

RIP

yeah, i had no idea.

because apparently, I should've known everything.

and i have a terrible time at recognizing voices on the telephone so when people call me and are like "it's me" and i don't recognize them, i give them the "obviously, you haven't exactly earned the right to use 'its me' since i don't know who you are"

Over/under on the number of hours devoted to him by ESPN.

I'm going with 138.45.

It's not even that good of a drawing.

Imagine what it would look like if I drew it while not drunk at 1am.
