According to Packer Report’s Bill Huber, impending free agent cornerback Sam Shields is expected to reach the free agency market. The Packers have been hoping to re-sign him, and they still could, but there will be many other teams interested in bringing him in. This isn’t exactly surprising news, but it adds yet another talented player to an already intriguing free agency class.

Sam Shields was one of the biggest playmakers on the Green Bay Packers’ defense this year, and has been a key piece for the Packers over the last couple of seasons. He has blazing speed that helps him keep up with some of the better wide receivers in the NFL, and that will make him a very valuable free agent target to many teams.

Not a fan. It was disgusting to watch him play here in Carolina. He has so much ability but just seems like he is totally cool with being blocked 85% of the time.

The Packers’ defensive line has suffered a setback.

Nose tackle B.J. Raji suffered a torn bicep in Friday’s exhibition vs. Oakland, Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. The injury is thought to be potentially “season-ending,” Silverstein reported Saturday.

The Packers’ first-round pick in 2009, the 28-year-old Raji has been a starter along the Green Bay defensive line the last five seasons. Veteran Letroy Guion and rookie Mike Pennel are listed as the top backups at nose tackle.

Earlier Saturday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reported it was suspected Raji had suffered a biceps tear. And now, it appears those concerns were well-placed. The focus now turns to the severity of Raji’s injury. If there’s a chance he could again play this season, placing him on injured reserve with a designation to return would be a possibility.
