couldnt care less about either team, but its always nice to see the US lose, especially that obnoxious moron tim howard. reminds me of chris bosh or kevin garnett the way he spazzes out after making completely routine plays.

Anyway, that was fun. Howard was truly phenomenal. Sucks he'll probably never play in another World Cup. Good run. Its all about Columbia from here on out tho

Tim Howard was incredible, you have to feel so bad for him. A world class keeper, I hope he gets more attention after this.

Belgium were clearly better, but the U.S. defended so well. They can't pass for shit though. I mean, it's really bad. If we could just get 5% of the athletes that play American football to play soccer we could do some shit. The U.S. is still waiting on its Messi or Ronaldo. It's gaining in popularity here every year though.

Still really enjoyed watching them play though, and they had their chances in the second half and extra time. They would have lost to Argentina anyway, but would have been great to see them try to deal with Messi.

No real surprises yet in the knockout round.

No surprises (Costa Rica was already a surprise) but every game was a close call. 5/8 went to ET. For once many of those games didn't go to penalties. Solid round but the first half has been crap in every game - teams are just conserving energy and hoping for a lucky goal.

I predict the predictable will happen depending on injury-news, and from there it's anyones guess:

Brazil-Germany
Holland-Argentina

The problem is that all of Americas best athletes play football and basketball. I think that within the next decade+ we will probably start to see an influx of talented soccer players, as parents grow more cautious about allowing their kids to play football. Don't players in Europe turn pro in their early teens though? That will never happen here.

Well that's because other countries use their schools for academics, not sports.

Literally the stupidest fucking thing to do. Associating major sports (basketball, football, baseball) with college is fucking asinine and needs to go away completely. Obviously it never will but it should.

Can't say I am a fan of his, but what a cheap shot on Neymar. Yes, he is a diving faggot of the Robben elk, but that doesn't give you free reign to do a flying knee that breaks a guys back. Not cool.

Also, how does Neymar - Messi - Suarez work? I always thought what costed Barca was never properly replacing Puyol, and the steep decline of Xavi, not so much the lack of offensive firepower.

But apparently its way way way way WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY worse to give someone a little bite they recover from in 5 seconds.

Makes sense imo.

Costa Rica is the last 'underdog' left in the tournament.

Hope they give Holland a real test.

robben has been an amazement all tourney long. i dont think any player takes as many hard knocks as him, finally a player who only goes to ground after legitimate illegal contact. truly a dutch talisman and a fantastic ambassador of the beautiful game.
