I went with KG. That height and high release point made it unstoppable.

It's Jordan. He was super reliant on it, since he was a pretty bad 3pt shooter.

MJ had the best and biggest array of mid range shots in his game.

it's too hard to quantify unless we factor in playoff/regular season mid range %

i'm going to vote with my heart/eye

this was a tough poll to create but there are a few omissions that bother me

remove MJ and it's a better discussion, imo

I might take Nash in his prime. Malone prob deserves consideration before Aldridge too

I didn't really get to see bird and Mullin only a bit so I'm going Stockton because that motherfucker is vastly underrated as a scorer

Went with Dirk, but Nash statistically has a case for being the best shooter in NBA history.

I was just a youngster when Bird was done but from all the NBA classics I've seen and highlights I'd say Bird. I guess I'd take KOBE otherwise. Dirk did it from deep and has that fadeaway from the high post. Can't take kg or Aldridge over Dirk because Dirk has done it better for longer. I don't think Nash shot enough to be considered.

had to go with dirk b/c he not only can be legit argued as the greatest shooter ever but also b/c he won a title (and coulda easily won 2) as the primary option with the mid-range jumper as one of his most-used weapons

I was thinking about him too. He may not be the best but he deserves to be on the list. Definitely over a guy like KG.

mind you it's much more difficult to post great shooting numbers when you play defense and grab boards

Not sure %s, but KGs shot was a lot harder to stop then rips.

But it was rips entire game and he did it on the move. KG was a great mid range shooter but it wasn't exactly his entire offense.

maybe I need to look at some vids, but watching KG over the years I never EVER thought KG, one of the best midrange shooters ever.

It's a really good shot, but not a great one. I'd take Athlete's midrange shot over KG's. I voted Dirk.

Last three posts have me wondering how much KG you guys actually have been watching.

KG
Rip
Aldridge

They don't have anything form before 2000. Go down to shooting. For career (2000+)

KG has shot .454 from 16-<3 and .461 from 10-16. 32% of his shots were from 16-<3 and 21% from 10-16
Rip has shot .415 from 16-<3 and .432 from 10-16. 30% of his shots were from 16-<3 and 26% from 10-16
LA has shot .418 from 16-<3 and .408 from 10-16. 34% of his shots were form 16-<3 and 20% from 10-16

It's not even close. Since 2000 KG has shot under .430 from 16+ just THREE times. That said, difference between KG and Nowitzki pretty big. Nowitzki .478 from 16-<3..

Why not just make the thread "KG is the best midrange shooter, here's the proof"?

Still going with Bird. Larry Legend was incredible, especially in clutch situations.

Is shooting from the post the same as midrange?

Rip and LA are clearly not as good as KG. If you said Nowitzki, Bird, Nash, or bunch of the other options I really couldn't argue much.
