it's not a TERRIBLE premise but it has some holes but in reality anyone in his right mind would already note that the suns missed out on 2 possible titles on paper, 1 due to injury, and the other due to suspension like binary said...for example, phoenix never got closer than a game 6 of a WCF which they lost rather easily to dallas b/c amare was hurt...the real closest year was the year before that when they had both amare and joe johnson (but like binary said, a suspension affected things big time, the suns would have run past the jazz easily and then beaten an unready lebron led cavs team easily too that year although to be fair it's not like it was game 7, the suns lost in 6 so even if they won game 6 and got the suspended diaw and amare back for game 7 they still would have had to go out there and beat popovich/duncan)

nash was a purer point, curry is a scoring point, that doesn't work that well, but in the sense that they are both the engines on offense it kinda works...curry is less of a defensive liability but neither were/will be "good" at defense b/c of physical limitations

draymond green is shawn marion if marion could create by himself so that doesn't work but then again the suns ran diaw so green is actually a perfect combo of diaw and marion

klay is like an amalgam of joe johnson and quentin richardson

new barbosa vs old barbosa

bogut/ezeli/lee compares only to the kurt thomas' of the world. young amare was on some other shit.

the biggest glaring difference is the supporting casts. phoenix ran major minutes with the likes of guys like tim thomas, raja bell, jim jackson and james jones

i'll take harrison barnes/iggy/livingston/bogut and co. over that entire cast of rejects any second. you're talking about 4 lottery picks in the 1 to 9 range versus steven hunter/thomas/bell/jackson/barbosa/thomas/jones LMAO

prime suns 8 man rotation (playoffs) team is not better. their best offensive players, amar'e and nash, were arguably the worst defensive players (especially man-to-man defense which is heightened in importance in playoffs) in the league.

prime suns (the 2004-05 team, not fair to go to next year when joe johnson was gone or two years later when amare was hurt and just kind of combine the best roster possible, i can judge only the team that was intact for the year):

pg nash
sg quentin richardson
sf joe johnson
pf shawn marion
c amar'e stoudemire
bench barbosa, hunter, jim jackson

14-15 warriors
pg curry
sg thompson
sf barnes
pf green
c bogut
bench iguodala, livingston, ezeli

joe johnson at sf over barnes at sf = only clear win for suns in this matchup. marion over green is arguable but imo green's tougher man-to-man defense and ability to create off the dribble which gives curry and to a lesser extent klay some possessions off offsets the rebounding/help defense/sprinting on fast break advantages of marion who was in his prime then.

could you imagine how many points these two teams would score against each other though?
