NASHUA ג A 43-year-old Nashua woman accused of killing one pedestrian and injuring another by running them down with her car now faces an additional charge of reckless second-degree murder, the state attorney general's office announced Sunday.
Police initially arrested Ivonne Hernandez for aggravated driving while intoxicated and two counts of reckless conduct, all Class B felonies, at the scene of the incident, which occurred early Friday morning on Elm Street near West Hollis Street, officials said.
Nashua resident Matthew R. Beaudoin, 29, suffered multiple injuries, including extensive head and brain trauma, police said. He died Friday night at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass., where he'd been taken from Nashua's Southern New Hampshire Medical Center. Police said an autopsy was scheduled for Sunday.
The second pedestrian, 21-year-old Maria Hughes, sustained minor injuries, police said.
Hernandez was scheduled to be arraigned on all charges today in Nashua District Court.
Investigators said earlier that a verbal exchange apparently led to the incident, which took place around 1:30 a.m. Friday next to Maynard & Lesieur, a longtime city tire sales and repair shop at the corner of West Hollis and Elm streets. They said Hernandez struck the pedestrians as she drove her maroon Dodge Intrepid through the dealership's dirt parking lot.
With cruisers and yellow tape, police closed a section of Elm Street behind City Hall for most of the day Friday, working with various investigative equipment in and around Hernandez's heavily damaged car and taking photos of the scene from atop a fire department aerial platform truck.
Beaudoin, a 1997 Nashua High School graduate, worked as a poker dealer at several Nashua and Manchester venues, friends said, including Sharky's and Nashua's Holiday Inn.
