hockey

Post by ALASKA »

last season i watched some hockey on high def and got really into it. i was never really into hockey before and i think i want to get into it. i just need to pick a team to follow. Being from new york i probably should go with an ny area team but for some reason i have an irrational hatred of the rangers and devils. i think its just there fans that always annoyed me. I mean there are always the islanders or the sabres but at the same time im kinda feeling like i want run with a canadian team. anyone have any recommendations of a good team to get involved with?

The Rangers are the only respectable team in the tri-state area.

LOL. He doesn't wanna root for a team created by Disney that plays in a place where hockey doesn't belong.

How bout the Flyers? We always keep shit interesting but we're Philly and never win so you won't have to worry about anyone hitting you with the bw tag.

thats a possibility. my pops is a flyers fan, so i would be grandfathered in on that and have a legit tie to the team. plus they have fresh jerseys.

i was also thinking the montreal canadians. love the jersey, the name and the history. but do they even still exist?

don't be a Flyers fan, you will join the fraternity of buffoonery.

Montreal still exists, and if their goaltender didn't suck in the playoffs this year, they would have made a serious run for the cup. They finished #1 in the Eastern Conference.

TREASON!!! IF I EVER MEET YOU I WILL SHOOT YOU DEAD WHERE YOU STAND YOU FUCKING TRAITOR.

EDIT: I would say Montreal is a good team for you to jump on board with, Alaska. They'll probably be good for a while and wearing one of their jerseys is bound to piss off whatever fans you're in the presence of.

However, if you want to be an elitist and prove that you're now a "real" hockey fan you could pick someone like the Leafs or the Stars who somehow convince their fans every year that this is "the year" yet always fall short.

The Leafs are going to be shit this year.
It's going to be a rough year to follow.
If you want a good Canadian team, the Calgary Flames are good. Fun to watch, lots of fighters, and their best player and captain is black so you can keep it real. They also have one of the ebst crowds in the league, though you can't go wrong with any crowd for Canadian teams.

About that ... Good luck just stumbling upon an NHL game. Unless you have Versus or Center Ice you probably won't see a full game on TV. NBC shows games during the playoffs but if your team isn't in it then why care?

So, the Isles should be looking at close to last place this year. They've decided to go with a "younger core" this year, and fired their coach because he wanted a chance to win.

The Rangers, like most teams in New York seem to have the ability to buy a championship every year, but the end results aren't there as there seems to be very little cohesion amongst the unit.

The Devils are living in the past. They will only slip further in the standings next year, unless Brodeur continues to pull magic rabbits out of his ass. No, that wasn't a typo.

The Habs, or Canadiens, are a decent team. Last year I put money down at the beginning of the year for them to win it all. I'm not doing it this year, only because the odds aren't as good. They'll do alright for themselves, and they toughened up a bit in the off-season, the brute of a team like the Flyers won't be as much as a factor against them, but it will probably still wear them down in a 7 game series.

Pittsburgh has a great team, losing a couple pieces, but should still be in the race for the top spot in the conference, in not the league.

Philly will probably come in 4th or 5th in the East. Like always, a very rough team for the opposition to play against, wearing opposing players down throughout the course of a game as well as the season for divisional opponents.

I'm a Sharks fan. I'm about to leave the office, otherwise I would have continued to break down some teams. I watch a shitload of hockey. Love the sport.
how about you ease up on the hotdogs?

Fuck that, Flyers fans are cretins, not to mention insecure whiney losers who lose their shit as soon as a two-goal lead dissipates.

Go with the Capitals. As a team, they were by far the most exciting squad, taking their division after being dead last in the league in the early part of the season, which has never happened before. They are the epitome of "up-and-coming" Plus:

1) BEST player in the league in Ovechkin, who, unlike faggots wearing bird sweaters, doesnt EVER dive, hits like a freight train, shoots harder than anyone else, and looks like a Russian version of sloth from the goonies. Want to grow with a team? Ovie is only 23. Oh, and the only player in NHL history to win Hart, Art Ross, Rocket Richard, and Lester Pearson award in same year.

2) Mike Green, aka Paul Coffey II, the illest skating offensive defenseman in the game. Takes the puck from the point to the net better than anyone else, lead the NHL in goals by defenseman, and rocks a mohawk.

3) Alexander Semin, posesses a porntastic name, and a slick wrist shot that is badass, and he's another Russian thug.

---And last, but not least. As a blogger, you are allowed press access to the caps. All you have to do is email their PR department, and they will hook you up with press passes so you can interview all of the players and shit with the pro journalists and whatnot.

See? Plus the team has no faggots of they Sidney Crosby-variety.

I could co-sign with this too. Forgot about the Caps.

I would suggest you join me in Islander fandom, but it's not for the faint of heart and I'm not sure a NY born Red Sox fan could handle it.
