Thoughts on: Oasis

Post by Myjah »

Do yall think Oasis is annoying, over-rated, good, or best of all time (for some reason they think this in England)?

Oasis annoys me in theory, but then I look back and realize they have a lot of songs that I very much like (favorite is Live Forever, then of course Wonderwall, Champange Supernova, Don't Look Back in Anger, etc.). Problem is they all sound the same.

I can never tell if more people like Oasis or are annoyed by them.

I like early Oasis. Quite a bit. "Be Here Now" and "Morning Glory" are fantastic.

Really? I don't really consider "Be Here Now" early oasis. That's like mid or late oasis. I think "Deffinetly Maybe" and "What's the Story" are really the only ones that qualify in my book.

You're right. What's the first one then? "Definitely Maybe?"

They really REALLY wanted to be the Beatles, no?

Meh. They had some decent hits, but so did Bananarama.

my girl's roommate works at their label. its hard to talk shit about them around her because like any person working in the music biz, she is so certain the artists she's promoting have awesome music. and i'll give her the benefit of the doubt, their early shit is dope (whats the story morning glory is a great album and d'you know what i mean was an amazing single), but the music they're making now? please....she's complaining they're not selling well at all right now. why do you think? NO ONE CARES ANYMORE.

Big fan here.

Definitely Maybe, Morning Glory and Be Here Now (way slept on) are all great albums. Even the later stuff has some really strong material.

They fucking rock live. Love him or hate him (that's kind of the point) Liam is a sick performer. Not too many frontmen can stand completely still and affect being bored and hold an arena in the palm of his hand.

I think the Beatles comparisons are way overblown. Yeah, some shit sounds similar, but Oasis has always had a harder edge, more fuzzed out guitars and the natural vibratto and sneer in Liam's voice is so much iller than any Beatles vocal.

Regardless of his influences, Noel still wrote songs like Champagne Supernova, Wonderwall and Know What I Mean, not McCartney or Lennon.

In fact (wait for it), I like Oasis better than the Beatles.

I dunno, i thought they were one of the most boring live bands i've ever seen when i saw 'em back in the 90s.

But they're definately more comparable to someone like T-Rex than The Beatles.

They suck. Overwrought, derivative, bullshit.

I appreciate that they drink a lot and get into fistfights with each other, but they still suck.

Fuck the Beatles

Oasis are cool, some GREAT songs, wouldn't listen to a whole album or anything.

Loved them when I was younger, everyone did back in the mid 90s, really

Haha, that bag says "Spelt" on it! Silly Bob and his Red Mills.

:limpy:

But no really, and do forgive me for the above spacing (yes I know it creates more memory to work with for slow computers, believe me, *i know*), but perhaps Noel Gallagher should be given more recognition than Liam quite frankly. I went to school with this girl in high school and she was a Liam fanatic. Fanatic. I personally didn't get it at all. She was a psycho, pretty much. Then she got really into Radiohead and became a Thom Yorke groupie alongside her Liam obsession. Saying she's gonna move to England and park herself outside camping out until she was to meet/meat him. Whichever she was into at the moment.

It's this type of fandom that mirrors The Beatles. Except its more like a pathetic soap opera softbatch type shit. Like "Alright Archie, who're you gonna pick, Veronica or Betty". Man fuck that shit. What happened to Selena getting killed by a fanclub president? Or even the man who killed John Lennon himself. A fan, was he not?

He was indeed. The old days are more crazy with fanatic stories. Too much damn security nowadays. Whatever happened to the fact that the Beatles had to stop touring because it was a HEALTH hazard if they did!

Oasis will never get that high. Liam and Noel missed the mark way back in 1997.
