Tricky Appreciation Thread

Post by Icesickle »

He fell off after his first two solo albums, but for a while he was killing it. Blue Lines, Maxinquaye, Pre-Millenium Tension...Give some props to hip-hop's version of Trent Reznor; a grimey, melancholy genius. While I'm at it, props to Martina Topley-Bird as well, who possesses one of the most hauntingly beautiful voices I've ever heard.

Tricky (feat. Martina Topley-Bird) - "Makes Me Wanna Die" (Best emo break up song ever.)

Tricky (feat. Martina Topley-Bird) - "Pumpkin"

Tricky (feat. Martina Topley-Bird) - "Christiansands" (Any song that references Helsinki gets instant props, and this video is heat.)

"Christiansands" Live ( :ohsh: Martina kind of looks like keenone.)

Massive Attack (feat. Tricky) - "Karmacoma"

Tricky (feat. Martina Topley-Bird) - "Black Steel"

Tricky (feat. PJ Harvey) - "Broken Homes" (Best song he's made post Pre-Millenium Tension. He needs to make a whole album with Harvey and Topley-Bird.)

BOOOOO!

Angels With Dirty Faces belongs on the list of great Tricky albums.

Martina's solo joint was pretty dope too... Sandpaper Kisses is the shit.

this takes me back some

saw him at lalapalalalaza in 97, good times. oddest stage presence ever, he doesn't do anything really except shake his head but it was strangely compelling

God, i hate that cover of "Black Steel.." (my 2nd favorite P.E song) so much.

"Maxinquaye" is overrated as fuck but he has a few songs i like, mainly "Hell Is Around The Corner", "Christiansands" and "Brand Nu, You're Retro".

I liked Portishead the most out of all those trip-hop groups because, unlike the others, they didn't have some stoned foreign dude rapping badly on their songs and didn't get new-agey like Massive Attack and Tricky-solo often did.

First two albums are dope.

Dig the Black Steel and Lyrics of Fury covers, even though the originals are two of my favorites ever.

Go figure.
