Wow. Impossible to compare the two. Both great yet totally different from the other. Prince will win this poll, but I voted for Coleman. A breakthrough album that paved the way for avant garde Jazz.

Other than a handful of albums jazz is a boring genre and avant garde free-jazz is just unlistenable saxophone squawking that nobody honestly enjoys listening to. Prince, on the other hand, makes the sexay-est pop muzik imaginable and reigns supreme over nearly everyone.

Okay, i'll fess up and admit that i haven't actually heard "The Shape Of Things To Come" but i can't imagine there being anything on it anywhere near as jaw-droppingly amazing as "Let's Go Crazy", "The Beautiful Ones", "When Doves Cry" or "Purple Rain". In fact, i can only think of, like, 4 or 5 albums as good as "Purple Rain".

Vote : Purple Rain, Purple Rain.

True, but "Off The Wall" is only a smidgen off being as good as "Purple Rain".

I never meant to cause you any sorrow
I never meant to cause you any pain
I only wanted one time to see you laughing
I only want to see you laughing in the purple rain
purple rain, purple rain (3x)
I only want to see you bathing in the purple rain

I never wanted to be your weekend lover
I only wanted to be some kind of friend
baby I could never steal you from another
it's such a shame our friendship had to end
purple rain, purple rain (3x)
I only want to see you underneath thepurple rain
honey, I know, I know, I know times are changing
it's time we all reach out for something new, that means you too
you say you want a leader,
but you can't seem to make up your mind
I think you better close it
and let me guide you into the purple rain
purple rain, purple rain (3x)
I only want to see you, only want to see you
in the purple rain
