DJ set (formerly funk a funk request thread)

Post by Funk Docta Bombay »

Hey, I got a last minute request from a friend to do an oldschool set (which isn't my usual thing) at his house party this weekend and I'm looking for some extra "ummph" to keep it popping. So apart from James Brown and P-Funk, you guys any suggestions as far as good funk for the dancefloor (70's, 80's)? I'm usually into laid-back soul myself so my collection is a little thin in that area.

thanks.

:icedit:
Finally played the set, I'd already settled on a tracklisting before IDL posted but his shit was what I was looking for mostly. I dled those after the fact and I could have easily stretched out the funk section another 10-15 minutes with those. Special shoutout to Huldrich for reminding me to use The Champ break.

Anyways, here it is. Obviously the set turned out into some weirder/more eclectic thing than straight funk but they kept shifting the length/demands for it it so after a while I did my own thing. Anyways, enjoy

Anything goes really. Afro-beat, international material is welcome. I'm keeping things around 110-120 BPM

I've got some funk, Hip-Hop, danceable indie stuff, etc. I just want to keep the focus on the funk for the most part

marvin gayes live version of lets get it on
marva whitney unwind yourself
mohawks the champ
booker t & the mgs & the meters always work fine
kc and the sunshine band
kool and the gang
roger troutman
do it till your satisified by the BT Express is an absolute shure shot
Roy Ayers Ubiquity evolution is massive but they have so much more
cant go wrong with Curtis MAyfield pusherman or superbad, people know those songs. one of my personal favorites from him is if i only was a chid again
ohio players runnin from the devil is a nice uptempo track
Jimi hendrix come on down hard on me, freedom, isabella, dolly dagger are all quite funky songs

80ies cheese usually works, upside down by diana ross, bad by MJ, prince's kiss, crusaders' street life, cheryl lynn got to be real is a sureshot, afrika bambaataa, kraftwerk sugarhill gang, flash & 5...

you could add some house for good measure, masters at work and stuff. the bomb by the bucketheads always works...

honestly this should be easy

funk i got something here that might work as a random drop in. it's not exactly what you asked for, but i'm fairly certain a bunch of white people will love it. AND there is an old school connection in there.

Basically very little of the shit listed in the thread so far would work with some P-Funk. What you want is :

ESG - Dance
ESG - Moody (Spaced Out)
Ohio Players - Funky Worm
Ohio Players - Rollercoaster Of Love
Kool G. & The Gang - Hollywood Swingin'
Zapp & Roger - So Ruff So Tuff
Zapp & Roger - Computer Love
Cameo - Rigor Mortis
Cameo - Word Up
Prince - Kiss
Prince - Erotic City
Rick James - Cold Blooded
Rick James - Mary Jane
The Gap Band - You Dropped A Bomb On Me
Newcleus - Jam On It
