If these dudes didn't exist. The 80's would have been all bad.

My first punk rock show was Bad Brains, Dr. Know, Pink Lincolns, and a local band, the Mutley Chix at the VFA hall in Gainesville, FL in September of 1987. Between the spikey punks, weird white rasta dudes and Confederate Hammerskins, I almost shit my pretty narrow minded Metallica shirt wearin self. Bad Brains started out with 30 minutes of real slow I love Jah shit, long enough for even the most ardent Goosesteppers would have gotten the fuck out cause of all that "n__ crap." Punks were pissed, weird white rasta dudes were dusted and Bad Brains rips into At the Movies. Best twenty five minutes of live shit I have ever seen.

Truth. No matter how generous you want to get the entire idea of punk is utterly Chris Bridges at this point. Whenever I think at how much rap has been jumped the shark, I always sigh and think "could be worse, could be punk".

On that note, this has been in heavy rotation recently. I can't help but shake my head at how many bands today use the same formula and end up with limp-dick autotuned corporate versions of the same sentiments.

I remember making a thread a long time ago of shows you wish you could have been at. and one of mine was to see Bad Brains at CBGB's in the early 80's. Shit would have been amazing.

I agree with the sentiments expressed by Money Gripp but I have to take issue with those of you who think punk will never be good again. Obviously, we're not going to see anyone who can fuck with the likes of Bad Brains, Black Flag, The Clash, etc. but there are still motherfuckers putting out dope shit. Ten Grand was good when they were around, Paint it Black just put out an incredible record, Black Eyes put out two classics before they broke up, and if Fugazi ever records another album, we can expect it to be nothing short of greatness (when have they ever disappointed?). And if you guys checked out your local scenes, I'm sure you'd find incredible punk bands that just don't have the exposure of NOFX, Anti-Flag, The Casualties and all that other garbage.

My band plays with great punk bands all the time. Seems like these days the lines between Punk, Sludge, Hardcore, Crust, Stoner, Noise etc.. are blurring to fantastic results.

Im still stuck on the same Power Violence records i was on a steady diet of in the 90s but lately i have been finding some great newer punk bands.

Anihillation Time
Its Casual
Warkrime

just to name a few of em.

heres one of my favorite bands evar!
