Going to see GHOUL in a warehouse converted to a shithole venue w/1/2 pipe BYOB type spot called the BLAST-O-MAT tomorrow night, then it sounds like I'm going to APE9's cousin's show on the 21st, http://havokband.com/ wishing it was one of the date's with EXHUMED and GOATWHORE. I've seen Cephalic Carnage enough times. Been awhile since Ive hit up a metal show.

definitely. apparently it'll be something like a straight-up old school death metal record. sounds sweet.
ג€œThis collaboration is extremely fun, and the music is in the traditional Death Metal vein. Itג€™s pretty much a blatant tribute to old (and some newer) Death Metal tunes. Fans of bands like Grave, Death, Obituary, Malevolent Creation, Cannibal Corpse, Monstrosity, etcג€¦ will find a familiar sound and traditional DM feel. Weג€™re currently in pre-production of our first full-length album at the moment. Itג€™s packed full of blast beats, trem picking, guitar solos and guttural vocals. Thereג€™s no core, no prog, no ג€œdjentג€, this is a 100% Death Metal album.ג€

Kvelertak in BK on Friday.

Been a while since I've wanted to see a band this badly.

All NYC heads should come through for sure.

really disappointed with the Cynic ep. doesn't even sound like Cynic, sounds like a heavier version of that shitty Aeon Spoke stuff they did before the reunion.

Hopefully Paul will get his head out of his ass and start making prog/tech metal again, this shit is a snoozefest.

here's the best doom metal album of the year easily, new Esoteric

Mastodon and Dillinger Escape Plan came through Milwaukee last night...

gotta say, DEP was the bigger highlight...dudes were jumping on top of/into amps...swinging the speakers backs and forth...crowd surfing at one point...i think the lead singer is a 'roid rager.

Mastodon is still cool, still one of the most complete bands, but at this point they aren't going to blow you away if you've already seen their show.

oh yea, this was posted on facebook...(the hardcore thread is basically no more without MG)

No doubt, this show was awesome. One of the best I've seen in awhile.

On an unrelated note: Anybody here going to Roadburn this year? I know we've got some bork metalheads who check this thread from time to time, so it shouldn't even be much of a trek for some of you.

I'm giving serious thought to going this year, never been to one of these euro festivals and i hear this is basically the best of the best. Plus it's like half hour away from Amsterdam.

Just a sample of the lineup:

Sleep
Voivod
Killing Joke
Ulver
Agalloch
Nachtmystium (Doing Instinct: Decay)
Black Breath
Christian Mistress
Black Cobra
YOB
40 Watt Sun
Saviours
Red Fang
Jucifer
Tombs
Bob Wayne (Slight :naswtf: )

And basically a ton more.

if you want to go then you really can't be too hesitant about it because the tickets will sell out in like half an hour.

that's pretty much why I never went, I can't really commit to anything like that.

Yeah that's what i've heard. I think last year it took like 15 minutes. You heard anything about the festival itself/know anyone who has been? 3 day passes are like 270 US so I'm trying to decide if it'd be worth it

yeah, well that's the whole thing, it's pretty expensive, tickets, beer, weed, merch, hotel, etc, so it's like, for the same money you can either vacation at a nice beach resort in greece or turkey for 7 days or listen to 15 hours of stoner rock a day for 4 days.

It's really not something for people who aren't totally into it, I guess. Obviously, since it sells out in 15 minutes, it's only for the die-hard nerds.

Probably not too many vaginas there.

I would rather go to this, but it's even more exclusive and expensive, but like, at least you are at these amazing natural scenes, not in some stuffy auditorium.

Holy shit, Dunajam looks insane. Would be even more cool if i knew more than like three bands on there, haha. Although some of those band names sound suspiciously jam band-ish

And yeah, knowing dudes I've seen in the past at stoner/drone type of shows, especially the dragons, orcs and wizards ilk, i am nowhere near die hard enough to do 15 hrs a day of that shit. Not trying to go to the netherlands for the metal equivalent of a Trekkie convention.

My initial idea was to hit the festival for a half the day and spend a grip of my time in Amsterdam since it's so close. I didn't really do that place right the first time I went so I was looking for it to be a drug induced week of debauchery mixed with a few shows at roadburn. But after realizing that what you wrote above is closer to the reality of what goes on at these festivals, I think I'd rather just hit the city up by itself on my way to a few other places.

easily the best doom album of the year.

It's not as generally fucked up and psychedelic as Esoteric usually is, it's a lot clearer and more based on really letting the riffs and guitarwork shine instead of just imposing Lovecraftian horror on you for a full hour, but yeah, there's no one who's seeing Esoteric with this type of pure doom metal when it comes down to it. They have never put out an album that wasn't great.

If you want to experience them at their most evil, check out Metamorphogenesis

these guys are great. very weird, complex thrash with a nice dose of black metal type riffs here and there. a bit of a voivod vibe at times.
