Youth Lagoon- The Year Of Hibernation
Image
I've been on a strictly hip hop diet for several months now, mainly because nothing else out there has really caught my ear (save the Stephen Malkmus album). But this little lo-fi, reverb soaked nugget is exactly what the Dr. ordered. It's grand and meek at the same time. Incredibly dynamic for an 8 song album that a 22 year old made in his bedroom. Hard to choose which songs to share, they're all incredible. The visuals on the first one are lifted from the awesome movie Fantastic Planet, you can test listen to the whole album through the second vid, and the third one is probably the best video I've seen all year-

First of all this album is crack, can't stop listening to it. Just got a physical copy of this and was surprised to find the album had a totally different track order than the one I had downloaded. The sound was also a lot more cleaned up and other musicians were credited. This was nice to be able to make out more of the lyrics, but I had already kinda fallen in love with the super reverb version that I had been listening too. Time will tell which one I like better in the long run, but for now I think the original made-in-a-bedroom aesthetic fits better with the material.

I don't know which one you all have heard, but I can give you a link to the original if you need help, just PM me.

track listing was out of wack on the one i d/led too. curious about the cleaned up version that you're talking about, the one i've been bumping has reverb to the maxx but as you were saying, kinda love it like that

I love how it is ok for musicians to be ugly again. Toto are rolling over in their graves.

^ don't think the new one's leaked yet.

Dug the few tracks I've heard but jesus christ he's cringe worthy live. At least from the few vids I've tried watching.

Got the album, it's pretty sick. Don't think it tops the first, but it's definitely a worthy follow up. He's obviously acquired a lot more toys, all sorts of cool sounds throughout the album. I thought he was great live. Something really cool about seeing an awkward little guy play these epic songs on his keyboard.

PM if you need a link.
