Jason Molina, of Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co., has died, as Chunklet notes.
Molina died on Saturday, March 16 from organ failure due to alcohol consumption, according to Chunklet. His last release was 2012's Autumn Bird Songs.
Molina's problems with alcohol were brought to public awareness in late 2011, when the Molina family posted a plea for contributions to Jason's medical fund on the Magnolia Electric Co. website. They wrote that over the last two years, he had been in and out of rehab. He did not have medical insurance, and had been in convalescence working on a farm in West Virginia.

Wow. Horrible horrible news, was one of the better singer/songwriters around. Will put his albums on spin this week in memorandum. Alcohol is a terror.

might as well light up this thread with some tunes, don't really feel like listening to any of them right now tho
bought the sojourner box set ~six months ago, it's been sitting on my kitchen counter ever since, might have to dive into it tonight, finally
fuck

& of course,

could put that opening five song stretch on magnolia electric co. up against anything (the remaining tracks on the album aren't schleps by any means, but those first five, fuck)
fuck
trading show stories via email, had some great damn times while watching this dude

Such a loss.

FYI, his label is presently streaming Molina's entire recorded output from this site -- what an impressive collection of music. Gone too soon.
