Can't wait for Creep to put out their album. Check the lead single with Nina Sky if you haven't (yes, the Move Ya Body-sisters). Excellent dark R&B.

I appreciate the sound/atmosphere they are going for, but the song was kinda boring imo.

Album comes out August 8th. Loving this shit. Thanks for the heads up Drizzle.
Not sure why there are trannies in the video, but I'm feeling the track. More indie/alternative rock than R&B, but dope regardless. I'll definitely peep this album.

So is Blood Orange one guy or is it a black guy with a bunch of white musicians? I'm assuming if there is a band, it ain't black dudes.

I wouldn't check for the Weeknd if he had typical production, that being said, hes an awesome singer.

As I understand the recent release is produced by the guy from Esthero and a Toronto-dude called Illangelo. The latter also did beats for Airplane Boys, Ackbar might know them I'm guessing - they're decent too, it's like spacey Drake.

there's also plenty of videos out there of weeknd's debut live performance in toronto. sort of surreal how the entire crowd was singing along to every single word

next stop- co-headlining a sold out stadium show w/ drake & rick ross

Damn. This shit is very very cool. Is there more shit along this line out there and if so could I get schooled on it by someone? That beat and the singing make this some sexy-time shit. I could totally get my fuck on to this.

40's production is better on "Marvin's Room", but Frank blows Drake away as a writer and a vocalist. "Marvin's Room" is basically THE STORY OF THE WORLD'S SADDEST BOY. "Thinking About You" has a more complex narrative than the sad superstar cliche of "Marvin's Room", and his use of sarcasm is something i don't think I've ever heard in R&B writing.

Still not liking The Weeknd either. The next time I hear a memorable vocal melody from him from will be the first time. House of Balloons sounds like a bunch of bland versions of "In the Air Tonight."

that's an unwarranted diss to the magesty of in the air tonight

srsly, when i recently copped the first season of miami vice and the sequence which later became the music video came on in the pilot, i cried and ejaculated simultaneously. teh weeknd has long ways to go till it he can induce similar bodily emissions

I looooooove "In the Air Tonight." The scene in Miami Vice when Don Johnson calls his ex-wife and that song starts playing is the best scene in TV history.

Also great when they play that song in Paid in Full.

lol i actually just rewatched it on youtube as you were typing that out because of this convo

michael mann sucked at continuity and plot coherence at this point, but oh man could he counjure moods and use music to frame scenes. crockett walks away from the lonely phone booth, the shot holds for just a second to let you take in the neon sign and the night skyline behind it, and then that monstrous drum fill hits just as the ferrari peels out ... oh man :jiz:

i certainly wouldn't praise drake's writing as "poetic".. but it's direct & universally relatable to emo thugz like myself. there's a reason the (ex-girlfriend) subject matter is cliched.. combined with easily digestible lyrics & a great beat = good song. not groundbreaking.. but it's a modern pop song right

The "entire crowd singing along to every single word" bit made me cringe. I have a deep, preexisting hatred for everyone who has brought the weeknd up to me in real life. Especially Joel.

So I imagined myself surrounded by those people at a weeknd show, and they're all singing. You couldn't pay me enough to go to that.

The drake and rick ross thing, if it happens, will ensure I never see this act live.

I think it's best if we part ways now. I'm down with everything else in this thread not posted by CQ

i agree the sing along thing is pretty cornball. even worse is someone stood still for the entire duration of the concert holding their iphone recording the show (that's just 2011 tho)

that concert is happening 100% & weeknd's prob gonna be all over drake's new record. still kind of curious what label he'll end on tho

Both these artist sing vocals on the SBTRKT album, which I've still got to check out.

brenmar's usual thing is all about mixing r&b with house/techno and new bass. this mix is just straight r&b.. but i think it still chills in this thread nicely
