Essential Music Cont.

Post by Fuckin' A »

So, I realized that all the links in the essential thread have died, and I wanted to give people who didn't know about KiNGS a chance to download more great music. KiNGS is a blog run by some of the best music geeks from right here at philaflava: drizzle (Alex), slimebucato (same), DLG (same), rem6775 (same), deepfriedjello (deepfried), myself (Smackrobiotic), and we recently just added sunra to contribute. If you're reading this thread chances are you already know each contributor is capable of uploading quality music. Lots of diversity, and tons of essential music there. drizzle has been killing it with his obscure soul/funk/you name it uploads, slimebucato has put me on to some artists I couldn't believe I hadn't heard before, DLG and dfj have uploaded great albums, and rem has been putting in a lot of work. I want to give these guys a lot of credit because every album I've downloaded so far I've loved, and it only seems to get better. These guys are the reason why it's such a quality blog.

Of course with the amount of music being uploaded this blog wouldn't last very long if it were public. If you're interested in an invite you can pm me here, or email me here: smackrobiotic@gmail.com. It's open to anyone so don't hesitate to ask. I think more people should know about this since some of our best posters upload there. If you have any questions, or comments pertaining to the blog, feel free to ask here.

What would a Fuckin' A thread be without essential albums? Here are some that should be in everyone's collection. Enjoy!

I've owned that Sam Cooke album for quite some time and it's incredible. Truly timeless music.

I like mediafire for uploads. You can start an account with just a bullshit gmail/yahoo address and then store all the shit you upload in a folder there. After a while you build up a pretty good library of albums that are just a click away.

Here's Bona Drag. I'll upload that Herbie Hancock and some Rolling Stones in a bit.

It's from the inside of the Merriweather Post Pavilion LP. I have it as my wallpaper as well, and it always catches people's eye.

Thanks, and I wouldn't disagree with you as I think each of the albums are great/essential. I just happened to have that uploaded on my mediafire account at the time I made the post.

Reviews and ratings:

Rolling Stone (12/11/03, p.90) - Ranked #7 in Rolling Stone's "500 Greatest Albums Of All Time" - "...EXILE ON MAIN STREET is the Stones at their fighting best, armed with blues, playing to win..."
Q (6/00, p.91) - Ranked #3 in Q's "100 Greatest British Albums" - "...The Stones were at their most creative. The music simply flowed. The sound that emerged was dirty, sexy, soulful, f&#!ed-up and funky....a dizzy peak which the Stones never scaled again..."
NME (Magazine) (10/2/93, p.29) - Ranked #11 in NME's list of the `Greatest Albums Of All Time.'
NME (Magazine) (9/11/93, p.18) - Ranked #5 among The Greatest Albums Of The '70s - "...Definitive cigarette-in-mouth, fall-about rock 'n' roll..."
NME (Magazine) (7/9/94, p.43) - 10 - Classic - "...stands as perhaps the band's finest hour. A sprawling, dense yet compelling concoction of their romance with America's black musics..."
MG's Music Bible - Not having this album is a sure sign that your life has been an colossal failure.
All Music Guide wrote:Greeted with decidedly mixed reviews upon its original release, Exile on Main St. has become generally regarded as the Rolling Stones' finest album. Part of the reason why the record was initially greeted with hesitant reviews is that it takes a while to assimilate. A sprawling, weary double album encompassing rock & roll, blues, soul, and country, Exile doesn't try anything new on the surface, but the substance is new. Taking the bleakness that underpinned Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers to an extreme, Exile is a weary record, and not just lyrically. Jagger's vocals are buried in the mix, and the music is a series of dark, dense jams, with Keith Richards and Mick Taylor spinning off incredible riffs and solos. And the songs continue the breakthroughs of their three previous albums. No longer does their country sound forced or kitschy -- it's lived-in and complex, just like the group's forays into soul and gospel. While the songs, including the masterpieces "Rocks Off," "Tumbling Dice," "Torn and Frayed," "Happy," "Let It Loose," and "Shine a Light," are all terrific, they blend together, with only certain lyrics and guitar lines emerging from the murk. It's the kind of record that's gripping on the very first listen, but each subsequent listen reveals something new. Few other albums, let alone double albums, have been so rich and masterful as Exile on Main St., and it stands not only as one of the Stones' best records, but sets a remarkably high standard for all of hard rock. ]

You heard anything from Steve Earle's son, Justin Townes Earle? Dude's kinda, gangsta...

http://www.myspace.com/justintownesearle

I don't dabble in country, but I fuck with some bluegrass/folk/western-hillbilly shit...

Yonder Mountain String Band, some of My Morning Jacket(but, that's more shoegazey), Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, String Cheese Incident, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, but these are more new school bands...Great records, and great live shows(*no hippe*)...

Lou Reed Transformer -

http://www.zshare.net/download/57757682ec854883/

The song satellite of love was featured in a pretty fresh opening scene on the show "life on mars' the other night. it prompted a friend who has a mailing list to send out the record. also has the classic song perfect day that was used in transpotting
