Bands Named After Other Band's Songs

Post by Masked Terror #1 »

I know there are a ton.

Godsmack (Alice In Chains song) is unfortunately the first one that comes to mind.

What are some others?

Tribute/cover bands don't count.

Muddy Waters, right?

Pretty sure it has to be, since the Dylan song came out after the first Rolling Stones album.

Does Earth taking Sabbath's first band name count?

There was a crappy screamo band named New Day Rising (Husker Du).

I think the crap post Jawbox band Burning Airlines is named after an Eno song.

Oh and would Texas is the Reason be named after the Misfit's Bullet.

More bands should have Misfits lyrics as band names though. Just sayin'. Oh and not be a bunch of pansy boy rockers.

You guys suck at this. Let me drop knowledge:

Bad Brains from the Ramones' song "Bad Brain"
Supertouch from the Bad Brains song
Sick of it All took their name from the Negative Approach song "Sick of Talk"
Sheer Terror took their name from the Government Issue song of the same name

Damn, that was harder than I thought. :owens:

Wiki: "Beastie Boys were huge Bad Brains fans, and they intentionally selected a name with the initials B.B. because of this."

The Beastie Boys chose their name when they started out as a punk/hardcore band, and they wanted a name that sounded like Bad Brains.. I remembered reading this in an interview I think when their latest album 'To The 5 Boroughs' dropped, and found it on Wikipedia too.

It's from Magical Mystery Tour (the movie), but it's not performed by The Beatles.

I used to know a bunch of these off the top but right now the only thing that springs to mind for whatever reason is that Pretty Girls Make Graves was named after a song by The Smiths and according to Wikipedia The Smiths song "was named after a quote from Jack Kerouac's The Dharma Bums, which Kerouac took from a correspondence between Allen Ginsberg and Bob Dylan".
