natacha atlas is a dope singer from lebanon who sings mainly in arabic. her stuff is really beautiful, and these are some trip hoppy remixes. very dope.

from Lost Soul blog:

Jazz harp anyone? Seriously, if you're not familiar with this, you've gotta check this out. I knew nothing of Dorothy Ashby when I discovered this. I figured she was a vocalist from the cover, and when I spun it I was totally blown away. Of course, she's surrounded by some heavy hitters, too. It's pretty mellow, but swings like hell anyway.

Dorothy Ashby - harp
Frank Wess - flute
Herman Wright - bass
Roy Haynes, Art Taylor - drums

Recorded 1958
192 KPBS mp3s

Perhaps my favorite Jazz album. Hancock and Hutcherson play off each other so well

when you say laid back, before i try and sound cool i think: [img]http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_1aiTGW5jkYU/S ... s_net].jpg[/img]

then of course:
massive attack
portishead
boards of canada
bibio
yonderboi

anything but jazz
jazz makes my back curl up into knots like im waiting for a pencil to be passed through my peehole unsharpened and with a chewed up eraser

I don't listen to down tempo nearly as much as I did near the turn of the century , but all those u listed DFjellol were in heavy rotation -

I mostly listened at the all night down tempo spots in B-more though I had a few Amon Tobin CDs and stuff - lots of those cats would come through and their sets were always appreciated

hey dj fresh. can you give us a synopsis of those? thanks

sketches of spain

they slow down concierto de aranjuez and make it smoother in the arrangement. saeta and solea are excellent as well. album is chill and haunting. i think i have NOT tagged the bonus cuts on the album, which are alternate takes.

more on the way too
