Loving this very much right now. James Mercers vocals have always been so dope to me. if this is :lastweek: shoot me.

this song is really dope. the pairing of these two is awesome.

Supposedly James Mercer basically fired the rest of The Shins and replaced them with more established musicians and there was a lot of drama over that.. which lead to him doing this more solo project with DM

What is Mongrel Heart? It doesn't appear on the tracklist.

I've been playing this record a lot...It's pretty solid front to back. remixed the High road song. Gonna leak it soon.

Broken Bells - The High Road

Post by Tommy Bunz »

Forgive me if this has already been discussed, couldn't find any threads on it. I only checked this because of the Dangermouse connection but this is quite excellent. It's Dangermouse and the leadsinger of the Shins, really chill, possibly my favorite non-rap album so far this year. Any other fans?

pretty good.
i didn't think much of of the grey album, his stuff with doom, etc. so i had sort of given up on danger mouse. maybe i just don't like his production in a rap context

Search function is fucking gay. I searched for "broken" and for "bells" and this thread didn't come up because Cas posted it as one word. Sorry about that.

Ackbar, have you heard the Dangermouse & Jemini album Ghetto Pop Life? Thats by far his best rap collabo. Near classic imo.

Also, I've never really listened to The Shins. If I like this will I like their shit?

Shins albums are wildly different, imo.

It's pretty simple acoustic pop/rock stuff. If your favorite thing about brokenbells is the vocals than you'll probably love the shins.

The record's cool, but I don't feel like anything comes close to "The High Road". It's like a trailer for a comedy where they give you all the funniest jokes and spoil the movie for you a little. You still end up liking it, but you wish you hadn't seen/ heard the good stuff out of context.
