Not a big fan of the white river ampitheatre or Auburn in general but this would be worth getting over my hatred for Auburn to see.Masked Terror #1 wrote:Aug. 07 - White River Amphitheatre - Auburn, WA
press release for "RUSH: Beyond the Lighted Stage":
For fans of the legendary Canadian band RUSH, this is the documentary to experience. A comprehensive exploration of the entire history of this extraordinary power trio, from their early days growing up in Toronto, through each of their landmark albums, to the present day. Sit back and revel in the words, music, and wonder of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neal Peart.
With a career spanning four decades, RUSH is one of the most successful bands in the history of popular music, but despite their remarkable career achievements, they have never been recognized as critics' darlings. Directors Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn instead revel in interviews with the band's admirers and contemporaries, including Gene Simmons (Kiss), Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Jack Black, and others. Chock-full of rare backstage and concert footage, RUSH: Beyond the Lighted Stage leaves no stone unturned in its creation of an intimate portrait of these immensely talented and iconoclastic musicians.

Just saw the documentary. Really well done.
It's a movie for the fans- in depth chronicling of the career and the music, no time wasted on relationships/family/kids/bullshit beyond some entertaining recaps of their youth and a segment about all the awful shit Neil went through and how it affected the band.
If you are a Rush fan, you will be psyched.
If you're not, you'll be bored to tears.

Listening to the first Rush album for the first time in a while. Makes me wish they'd had another album or two before Neil joined. Not that I don't worship Neil, I do, I think he's probably the greatest living musician. I just think they were a pretty bad ass blues influenced, almost Southern rock band (Northern rock?) and it would be cool to have a few more albums of that sound. It's the only underrepresented era of their extensive career.

Just watched the doc again last night. Stands up to repeated viewing. I bought the DVD, which comes in some pretty dope packaging. Going to check out the hour and a half of bonus footage tonight.
Anyone else catch it? It's been on VH1 or VH1 Classic all month.
DLG, do you know if they ever play anything from the first album live? Or was all the Rutsey material jettisoned at the dawn of the Peart era?

it was amazing. got really drunk. also, I'm pretty sure I'm never talking to dude who was supposed to drive again because it could have potentially been the best weekend ever. Maiden played on Saturday and Rush on Sunday. The city was ablaze in metal shirts, crazed fans from all over Europe, old dudes from Norway buying the whole bar drinks and being shit faced at like 2 in the afternoon.
If we would have driven we would been in Frankfurt friday night, all of saturday and sunday, this way we were in a bus all of saturday in frankfurt on sunday and all of monday in a bus again with horrible, smelly people.
Was still worth it though, shit was magical.
