Not a big fan of the white river ampitheatre or Auburn in general but this would be worth getting over my hatred for Auburn to see.

press release for "RUSH: Beyond the Lighted Stage":
For fans of the legendary Canadian band RUSH, this is the documentary to experience. A comprehensive exploration of the entire history of this extraordinary power trio, from their early days growing up in Toronto, through each of their landmark albums, to the present day. Sit back and revel in the words, music, and wonder of Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, and Neal Peart.

With a career spanning four decades, RUSH is one of the most successful bands in the history of popular music, but despite their remarkable career achievements, they have never been recognized as critics' darlings. Directors Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn instead revel in interviews with the band's admirers and contemporaries, including Gene Simmons (Kiss), Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), Sebastian Bach (Skid Row), Kirk Hammett (Metallica), Jack Black, and others. Chock-full of rare backstage and concert footage, RUSH: Beyond the Lighted Stage leaves no stone unturned in its creation of an intimate portrait of these immensely talented and iconoclastic musicians.

Considering how insanely talented and influential Rush is, that's a pretty sad panel of celebrity endorsers/admirers they've assembled.

Did they just interview those guys right after they'd finished giving their Anvil soundbites?

rush is like that. they haven't gotten into the rock n roll hall of fame yet they've sold millions and influences billions.

us hardcore rush fans understand this gay bias and don't give a fuck.

best band of the last 30 years, anyone who denies this is a faggot.

fuck your nirvana.

Just saw the documentary. Really well done.

It's a movie for the fans- in depth chronicling of the career and the music, no time wasted on relationships/family/kids/bullshit beyond some entertaining recaps of their youth and a segment about all the awful shit Neil went through and how it affected the band.

If you are a Rush fan, you will be psyched.

If you're not, you'll be bored to tears.

No, it just premiered this week at the Tribeca Film Fest here in NY.

Unclear what the release plans are, but it's a slick, big budget doc production, so it'll surely be out in theaters or on DVD soon.

Listening to the first Rush album for the first time in a while. Makes me wish they'd had another album or two before Neil joined. Not that I don't worship Neil, I do, I think he's probably the greatest living musician. I just think they were a pretty bad ass blues influenced, almost Southern rock band (Northern rock?) and it would be cool to have a few more albums of that sound. It's the only underrepresented era of their extensive career.

some killer songs, but overall I think the Led Zep influence may be a little to overt in the early stages.

I was reading at a prog nerd message board that cheap tickets for this are like 175 and vip ones run for like 400 bucks.

damn yo.

Yeah, Alex almost sounds like he's auditioning for a Zep cover band on the first one.

Tickets seem to be pretty expensive and in short supply.

Usually if you wait until the last minute, there are folks eager to unload expensive tix they can't use on craigslist.

it's no wonder why they haven't played in europe since 2007, no need.

they have enough rabid fans in every major north american city to sell out arenas at ridiculous prices.

thank god for them most of their fans are 40 year old programmers with money to waste.

Just watched the doc again last night. Stands up to repeated viewing. I bought the DVD, which comes in some pretty dope packaging. Going to check out the hour and a half of bonus footage tonight.

Anyone else catch it? It's been on VH1 or VH1 Classic all month.

DLG, do you know if they ever play anything from the first album live? Or was all the Rutsey material jettisoned at the dawn of the Peart era?

^^^ This. They've been down here like 3 times in the last year, but each time, tix are ungodly expensive. The docu. was great, and it's evident they still just absolutely destroy it live.

it was amazing. got really drunk. also, I'm pretty sure I'm never talking to dude who was supposed to drive again because it could have potentially been the best weekend ever. Maiden played on Saturday and Rush on Sunday. The city was ablaze in metal shirts, crazed fans from all over Europe, old dudes from Norway buying the whole bar drinks and being shit faced at like 2 in the afternoon.

If we would have driven we would been in Frankfurt friday night, all of saturday and sunday, this way we were in a bus all of saturday in frankfurt on sunday and all of monday in a bus again with horrible, smelly people.

Was still worth it though, shit was magical.
