I have a soft spot for profanity laden R & B.

I'm sure it has, and will be said, "Wicked Games" was quite nice but deep down, deep, no matter how much I liked it I still would have preferred them covering the Chris Issak song.

"Loft Music" on the other hand is just cool.

"Wicked Games" is great and i was excited to listen to the whole thing, but it turned out to be a bush league attempt at making music like the gawd Terius Nash. The melodies and hooks are pretty mediocre. This is OK- about a C+.

FWIW- it's pretty terrible that the Love King thread had the same amount of replies this one got in one day. IDAL is rolling over in his grave.

I respectfully disagree. The production kills on this. Most future r&b type stuff is either real glitchy and abstract or spacey, frantic, and awful. If you don't care for the beats this will fall flat. I wasn't blown away by the "singles" but the first time I gave the tape a full listen I was blown away.

I'm lumping this in with future r&b because I don't know what else to call it

The village voice called it PBR&B today. You can lump Discovery, How to Dress Well, and some of Frank Ocean's stuff into that niche.

Anyway, the production is not much of a stretch stylistically from How to Dress Well, Dream, and Drake's producer 40. I think there is some potential here for a great record, but the mix tape coasted more on mood than good song writing in my opinion. I will give it a few more listens though.

i cant fuck with this stuff personally. should be right up my alley but something about the project feels forced / stilted & i dont think the songwriting is all there.

Sounds almost exactly like the Dream, which is a good and a bad thing. "Wicked Games" is probably my most played cut right now. Definitely been giving the project a healthy number of spins.
