Grilled Fish Collie Weed & Raid 2 (new steadyb comp)

Post by drizzle »

this one is all deep dub and reggae, lotta stuff verging on progressive or experimental. inspired by that Congos/Sun Araw collab album

it should probably go in the reggae thread but i'm not sure how many people still check that (plus I can't lie, there is some vanity involved here)

Tracklist:
1. Sun Araw/MG Gengras/Congos – happy song
2. Sun Araw/MG Gengras (as Duppy Gun Productions) – Multiply
3. Lee Perry – Disco Devil
4. The Congos – Congoman
5. Dadawah – Run come rally
6. Creation Rebel – Space Movement Section 1
7. Creation Rebel – In I father’s house
8. Native – Late September in May
9. Dadawah – 72 Nations
10. Rhythm & Sound w. Jennifer Lara – Queen of my Empire
11. Rhythm & Sound w. Shalom – We’ve Been Trodden
12. Sun Araw/MG Gengras/Congos – Food Clothing & Shelter

Good shit as usual driz. I'm a reggae newb though, so all this stuff is really fresh. Are some of these popular/decently known cuts or is it mostly obscure stuff that you dig for?

may be time for another 'best mix' thread :killacam:

thanks for checking this out guys

it's mixed

The two tracks that bookend this (Sun Araw/Congos tracks) are from a new album that came out this year, it made a bit of splash

Congoman is taken from Heart of The Congos, which is a canonical roots reggae album, often considered to be the best of the genre. The Creation Rebel songs are taken from the Starship Africa album, which is very highly regarded in the realm of 80s british dub.

The two Dadawah songs are taken from an album that was obscure for decades but has now been rediscovered as a lost classic. The Rhythm & Sound tracks were critically acclaimed when they were released in the late 90s and are probably fairly well known to people that follow dub-inspired electronic music, but i'm not sure how they stand in the reggae community at large.

The Native song is probably the rarest of the bunch, it's taken from a compilation of the band's work with Lee Perry which is absolutely incredible but fairly obscure.

Listening between World Cup games and it's definitely setting the desired mood. Space Age and Eastern Bloc are early favorites
