Sun Kil Moon

Post by unclebengi »

Not really familiar with this dude, but his new album Benji has been getting a ton of praise so I checked it out. Easily the best album I've heard this year from any genre, I'm an instant fan. Each track is like a movie and it seems it's all drawn from his own life. The two songs about family members dying from Aerosol can explosions in their own yards are nuts, Greatness abound here.

will check that out now
no lie i heard 'gentle moon' again earlier today and thought mayhap i had given kozelek a short shrift in the past
really only recall listening to one sun kil joint (couldn't say which one for sure, tho would imagine it was the debut) then his modest mouse cover album and never really cared much for either

Yeah. This album is tremendous. Hadn't heard any of his prior stuff.

This is really good. Like someone said, each song is a movie. Lyrics are incredible.

This is the guy from Red House Painters. Terrific artist. Some amazing music.

didn't even realize till reading that review that he had a role in the movie Almost Famous. I had just bought it on blu ray and it made for a cool watch knowing he was in it.

And Dusty, is there a Red House Painters album you'd recommend?

Def Red House Painters I, they do a Led Zep numbers thing.

Sun Kil Moon also just released a new LP, funny enough titled Benji, which got excellent reviews. I enjoyed it, but it is rather depressing, par for the course I suppose. Enjoy!!

Beginning to lean Down Colorful Hill. Thanks DLG. I really slept on that album. I would put them both around the same quality but DCH really is growing on me. Medicine Bottle >

Good looking man. Don't know how I passed through this album. I think Grace Cathedral Park just stuck with me so much and Katy Song that I couldn't get passed them. This album is their best, no doubt.

I'm sure I'm late to the party, but did you know Desertshore is the lead singer of RHP and Sun Kil, Mark Kozelek as well? I guess it's obvious as it says it is him, but I never knew his name until recently.

Really loved their Drawing of Threes album.

Randy Quaid is my jam.

Odd that this thread is here. I just pulled out Ghosts of the Great Highway three days ago and been jamming it since. One of my favorite albums from that time. This Benji shit fucking kills.

This shit was kinda funny at first but he just took it way too far. It would have been one thing if War on Drugs talked shit back, but they had nothing but nice things to say. I don't even like War on Drugs, but it's hard not to feel bad for them.

This chick from Perfect Pussy eviscerates Koz in this article-

He's an amazing song writer, but comes off like a supreme douche.

def a dick but am still finding it all pretty amusing. gonna guess this is the end of this particular road anyways. the most egregious thing would be not knowing the difference b/w being in chapel hill or raleigh, and neither is really a place you would find many hillbillies, despite whatever that perfect pussy womans on about
