Smashing Pumpkins

Post by Moolah »

I like this band. Lots. Both Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie are really great. I've never listened to any of their other albums though, how are they?

1979 is the chillest song ever.

Loved them in HS. For some reason I can't stand them now.

They were easily my favorite band when I was in 6th grade.

Siamese Dream is great but Mellon Collie is their crowning achievement. That album is good start to finish, soooo many jams on those 2 discs.

Adore wasn't so good but the album after that, Machina was actually really dope.

meh.

i listened to siamese dream as much as anything in middle school. then their music got worse and i realized billy corgan is a pretentious douche who i would have been annoyed by in the first place had i been old enough to know how to spot pretentious douches.

I never gave Mellon Collie a really good listen. I remember Siamese Dream and Gish were pretty good.

Mellon Collie was better than those two IMO, it's a necessary album while the later two weren't

Yes, Mellon Collie is incredible, even though I rarely listen to the second disc, because I'm weird like that and have to listen to albums from the start.

i really don't like Billy Corgan's voice, but agreed that "1979" is a great song

I got Gish for christmas last year, and sharing your sentiments on Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie I highly recommend picking it up.

Porcelina used to rock my world. I would blast that song in my bedroom back in high school. Beautiful and epic.

Although both Machina albums annoy me, Adore has sick production. "Ava Adore" is great, easily the album's best track (the backing track would sound good under a freestyle or something too, come to think of it...). The rest of the album serves as a nice bridge between what is ultimately their classic material and their worst matrial, imo.

Melon Collie is aight, but ain't nothing in their catalog touching Siamese Dream. First album I ever owned too.

Siamese Dream is much better than Mellon Collie, and like a lot of other people in this thread I can't listen to them anymore. They're the psychedelic indie rock version of Belle and Sebastian.

Saw em live right after Kurt Cobain killed himself with Red Red Meat.. Everyone still thought the whole Kurt thing was a joke..

Great show.. I remember sitting in the stands behind three really cute high school girls debating on who'd they'd most want to kiss.. they all went with Darcy.

Smashing Pumpkins are good, I only have Siamese Dreams though.

One of those bands with really good hits... bullet with butterfly wings, today, 1979, disarm, etc.

I really like their version of landslide, almost better than the original. Maybe I do.

I really liked and like Ava Adore, one of the later singles.

Freestyle, Hi-NRG, you get the idea.
