Radiohead is fucking garbage

Nirvana is incredibly overrated

The majority of current rock is atrocious, at best a poor attempt to capture a late 60s through late 70s vibe. Metal is an excpetion, but thats a different animal anyway

BE is overrated softbatch shit, while Electric Circus is unfairly maligned and is best when heard live with a backing of a band

90% of the time stones can't hold a candle to the beatles

techno is not music, period. trying to separate it into subgenres along the lines of "drum 'n bass is good but not trance" or making apologies ala "well it's good for the environment it's meant for" is a lot like saying "Nazi soldiers in Aushwitz were just following orders".

hiphop is not dead, it's going through its 'hair metal' faze. Dispet = Motley Crue, Jeezy = Whitesnake, and so on

Jay-Z is rapping noticeably and awkwardly off beat at some point in every one of his songs that's ever been released. Ditto for Eminem and Snoop.

Kurt Cobain is quite possibly the most overrated musician of all time.

Chuck D isn't a top tier MC.

Frank Zappa > Jimmy Page

Justin Timberlake is a worthless human being.

The Talking Heads influenced 99% of all "Indie Rock" music.

Led Zeppelin sucked.
Christina Aguilera is a better singer than Mary J Blige.
Nelly Furtado fell off hard after her second album.
Sole is a better rapper than KRS
Eddie Murphy's "Party All The Time" is top 5 for all time greatest songs.
Will Smith is the GOAT.
Every rapper on a major pretty much sucks.
R. Kelly is the most talented man in music.

All you'd have to do is play Ignition, Feelin on your booty, and Thoinga Thoinga, then go "now whats up?"

true, someone make a mockumentary real quick, the problem is that hiphop takes itself too seriously sometimes, makes change harder

anyway, i have an appreciation for old school hiphop, but i dont ever plan on owning or being a fan of it

I've been making this argument since the Bad Boy era. Sadly, almost 10 years have gone by since this first seemed to be the case and no Nirvanaesque "saviour" has emerged.

There's been pretenders to the throne. The thing to remember about nirvana and that whole seatle scene in general, is that it was at some point snapped up by a major and packaged and marketed as the big opposition to hair metal, of which people were getting tired of at that point. From this perspective, the better output from the late 90's indy boom was A. too early as the major public was not yet wholly fed up with commercial rap and B. never marketed properly on the major level as the savior of hiphop.

I think a big part of the reason it hasnt happened is that the lines between artist and executive are so blurred these days. Tommy Mottola didnt care whether it was Warrant or Soundgarden selling, as long as something was selling. Obviously, the Jay-Z/JD/Dre Dre's of the world have much more vested interest in seeing certain artists/sounds/styles maintain their stranglehold on the major label game.
