indie dancey shit
I've been djing a night on mondays thats indie/rock/dance/electro type shit
i've been playing shit like lcd soundsystem, hot chip, mstrkrft, css, of montreal, yeah yeah yeahs, rapture, !!!, etc. I've been doing it every week for months so I'm feeling it start to get stagnant.
I was wondering if any of you guys have suggestions as to some shit I could play. thanks.

IMHO, there is no lyricist now or before that can match the lyrical dexterity of Qwel.

well you already know I would say try some soca, techno, electronic and breakbeat kids dig it 3 out of 5 times. hip hop kids like their music to be violent and "hard" and cant appreciate beats and melodies the way the techno or electronic or rock kids do. afro beAT STUFF LIKE FELA KUTI OR KING SUNNY ADE OR DISCO FUNK LIKE JUICY FRUT BY MTUME, or funk jazz fusion genres, etc... if its african diaspora you know its gonna be danceable.

Too busy to do an extensive list now but they will probably love this:

And the last Kitsune Compilation should work as well:

Yeah, "Fucking Boyfriend" and "Again & Again" should definitely work in this context.Funk Docta Bombay wrote:The Bird and the Bee
You might wanna consider playing the Peaches remix of "Fucking Boyfriend", that shit is wild.
I didn't like their album all that much and the remix-craze is out of control these days but there have been quite a few dope Klaxons remixes (Van She Tech, SebastiAn, Surkin,...)
The Digitalism remixes of the Cure's "Fire in Cairo" and Depeche Mode's "Never let me down" are pretty hype too.
These space homos should also be fine, given the bands you mentioned:

Throw in some ESG, a random "Hustlin", "Push it" or "Stuntin like my daddy" and you're set.

I do know a lot of this stuff, but after djing the same night over 15 times, you want to spice it up and not have it sound redundant. I'm not down with playing the same set every week. Granted there are some bangers that everyone wants to hear every week but there are plenty of regulars that come every time so I want to change it up.Moolah wrote:
Shouldn't someone who dj's one of these nights like, know about the music and stuff?
