Top 20 NYHC Recordings

The Top 20 NYHC Recordings

Here's my top 20 New York hardcore recordings as promised. Putting this list together was a fun but challenging process. I consciously went against just picking favorites (hence why Gorilla Biscuits appears on here but Krakdown doesn't). I didn't include any compilations because you could probably make a Top 20 with just comps. and discographies. Obviously some tough choices had to be made (peace to You're Only Young Once, Born To Expire, Bringin' It Down, and a host of others) so this is by no means a definitive list. Neverthless, I think it represents the best of NYHC from the early 80's to the 90's. Enjoy.

Awesome list and excellent post.

Anyone who doesn't have these records needs to DL them all immediately.

I might have substituted Side By Side, Leeway, Token Entry and Supertouch for a few of these, but that would just be a matter of personal taste.

I'll try and post a few of those up in this thread in a few days when I can.

Extra props for not including any Madball, Crown of Thorns or 25 Ta Life.

NYHC on Donahue. The 80's >>> NOW

"I talked to this guy. He bought me dinner, he bought me beers"

"Okay, I'm the guitarist for Agnostic Front and we just speak of social unrest...um, conflict of interest...which in turmoil brings, uh, controversy...and it speaks for itself" <-- still trying to figure out what that means

"I'm not in the hardcore scene myself, but a lot of my friends are"

Great, great list. I maybe woulda gone for 9 Patriotic Hymns.. LP over the first 7" and had the Nihilistics album in here somewhere as it's probably the best example of early 80's hardcore but a superb list nontheless. Victim In Pain, Born Against 7", Burn 7", Age Of Quarrel and the Judge 7" are the highlights for me.

For anyone interested in pre-Agnostic Front/Cro-Mags NY hardcore, check out the Nihilistics self titled album and the New York Thrash compilation on Roir Records :

Image

You'll probably be familiar with the Bad Brains and Beasties tracks on there but there's plenty of other classics by The Nihilistics, Kraut, Adrenalin O.D, The Undead etc.

(Sorry Blessing - really should have mentioned that comp to you).

I'm disappointed there's no GO! in that 2nd podcast, especially when they've included them NJ boyz Rorschach.

Anyone have that collection of Absolution compilation tracks, demos and live recordings that came out like 10 years ago?

Spectacular thread. My cassette copy of "Just Can't Hate Enough" just broke about two weeks ago, so this is very timely.
