Who's your favorite DITC producer?

Post by Dragondude R »

Lord Finesse, Diamond D, Showbiz, or Buckwild?

I know most people would probably choose Buckwild, but Diamond D has some of my favorite beats ever, so he'd be my pick.

In order:

1. Diamond D
2. Buckwild
3. Showbiz
4. Lord Finesse

First Tier, in no particular order: Marley Marl, Ced Gee, Diamond D, Buckwild, Pete Rock, Bomb Squad, Beatminerz, Beatnuts, Erick Sermon, Large Professor, RZA, DJ Premier, Dr. Dre, Mark The 45 King, and Prince Paul.

Showbiz would be right around #30 overall on my producer list. Lord Finesse would fall somewhere between #50 and #60. I said that he was merely top 100 before, but that's kinda inaccurate. He's borderline Top 50.

You can make an argument that Diamond D is the greatest producer of all time. Also, I am a huge Pete Rock fan, but he ain't the king of the remix. That honor would go to Buckwild.

Of course, this is all just a matter of opinion.

I'd actually be surprised by that, as Diamond D killed it from 1989 through 1997. Buckwild had a two year stretch (1994-1995) of dominance, but he didn't have Diamond-type longevity.

If you go to discogs and analyze Buckwild's production career, it's truly amazing how much dope shit he produced over that two year stretch. He was the only guy who could fuck with DJ Premier in the mid-90s, although you could also make an argument for the Beatminerz, the Beatnuts, and the RZA (even though the RZA had been sitting on most of those legendary Wu Tang beats since the early 90s).

I def agree with that list. And yea, Lord Finesse is top 50, no question.

Buckwild has done some amazing shit and his consistency is something to be admired, but I'm still weirded out by how much hip-hop nerds love him. Honestly, he's rated number one with a lot of heads I know.

It's all good though, the man is dope (I myself would probably put him top 10 though).

Indeed, I thought one person would pick him. Damn.

Well, Runaway Slave or Goodfellas?

I know a lot of old school heads who would pick Runaway Slave (which is classic, Soul Clap especially is one of "them" joints), but I myself have to go with Goodfellas. Beats are just that damn dope.

"Soul Clap" was actually produced by Diamond D, as were "Still Diggin" and "Hard To Kill" from the "Runaway Slave" LP.

Both albums are classic from a production standpoint, but "Runaway Slave" might be a slightly better indication of Show's beatmaking prowess. "Bounce Ta This" and "Party Groove" would be two prime examples.

One of my personal favorites from Showbiz is the Freestyle Professors track "Down With The Freestyle Professors". That shit is great.

I forgot where I read it, but Diamond D said that he produced both "Diggin In The Crates" and "Still Diggin". I think that it was a Rap Pages article.

Generally, everything that Diamond D lays vocals on also has his production stamp on it, even if that is not indicated on discogs, or in the liner notes of the actual album.

But you're right. At the very least, Showbiz was involved on a co-production level.

To me Lord Finesse and Showbiz are the DITC "creme de la creme" (just because of The Awakening and Goodfellas) but damm Diamond and Buckwild did works i cant live without...
blackleg wrote:who made the beat for "da enemy" joint?
On The Tommy Boy Album, it was a remix by Premo
But on the All Love album (Japan release) , showbiz did the original beat.
it's crazy how premo gave a whole different soul to the track.

Diamond gets my vote any day of the year. Most consistent overall. Pickde some of the dopest loops ever for his debut.

Buckwild had that crazy run in the mid 90s though so he's my second fave in DITC, but they're all dope. Official crew and all that.
Kool Keith: I wore a straw hat with a feather to the last Source Awards. When I got to Madison Square Garden everybody was looking at me. When I got back home I seen everybody and their mother in their video wearing a fuckinג€™ straw hat with a feather in it.

Tim Dog: ג€œWhat Kool Keith gonna wear? Iג€™m gonna do that shit in my video. Iג€™m gonna wear that shit really quick. Whatג€™s Tim Dog gonna wear?ג€
