the song that i'm thinking of samples the beginning of darling dear. the melody and the lalala singing.

i think it's a late 80's/early 90's track. at first i thought it was three times dope but i'm really not sure:.. it could be by a group.[/quote]

I think you mean Tall Dark and Handsome- Tall Dark and Handsome.

Ok.. this is a weird request but... I am making a track about my hometown and I want to use samples from rappers lyrics to fill up the beat..

So if anyone knows a track with lyrics like "because I got love for my city" or some sort of sample that could be used for a cityanthem, I would really appreciate it..

Thanks in advance!!!

"It feels good to have love in the hood"...damn I can't remember from whence that line comes though.

Kurupt on 'Tru Master' - "God its good growing up in the hood"
Krs One freestyle on Funk Flex 60 Mins Vol 1 "I represent the city where its gritty and grimey"
Fallacy 'Blackmarket Boy' - "roll around town, love my city"

those are the first that spring to mind (the Kurupt & KRS are available in acapella aswell) but there must be thousands.

thanks for that Step one!!

Only my beat has a positif sound to it, so it's kind of weird to me adding "I represent the city, where its gritty and grimey.."

That Fallacy sounds better than the other ones above.. I'm gonna check that out...

I'm pretty certain that's Papoose in the first verse. Don't know the name of the track though.

Well that's an easy one, her, no contest. I've tried to find releases she's asked about on several occasions, no dice. She on the other hand has found plenty of material that I've been looking for, sometimes for years at a time. I'm like a second rate or poor man's Ho1ogramz at best. Which I'm completely okay with, I'm convinced she has absolutely no worthy competitors in the field of link searching.

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas. I see that Big Sleep's been holding down the request fort easy during my absence. Got damn with the multiple linkages per request, son!

Sounds to me like Yarah Bravo (DJ Vadim's wifey) covering Al Green's Here I Am (Come And Take Me). The OG version tends to play heavy where I work...

Damn, I stopped getting email updates on this thread.
Welcome back Ho1o.

I'm about to download that Stretch n Bob tape now, but I'm gonna take a
random guess that the Bust A Nut freestyle is Lord Digga.
I think Blockhead uploaded a demo or freestyle named that by Digga.
Let me get to this and I'll be back...

Side B:
Track 2- possible young Mr.Complex? I dunno. Stimulated Dummies beat, so
probably not. But that might help.

Track 6- Lord Digga - Bust A Nut (definitely Digga)

And yeah, I'd say this is early 94.

And I'm loving that other Digga freestyle. Who's the other cat rhyming on there?
Would I be reaching if I was to guess a possible Phantasm? Style's similar.

Thanks a lot Verge, I thought that was Lord Digga but couldn't be sure. It sounded like him.

Yeah nearly everything I've read and all signs I've found point to '94. I guess it's possible that it's late '93 but Big L already did a '93 freestyle and tended to do one a year, excluding '97 ('92 - '96 and then '98).

The only reason I say that is because there was a Ego Trip list about firsts on Stretch & Bob and one of the two of them talks about Ma$e and Cam's first appearance on radio supposedly in December of '93 and I always thought they were either referring to this show (which I wouldn't argue with either one of them on this but I could've sworn this was a '94 show) or one that was before this show and I've never heard it. So there's still a pretty good chance it could be real late '93 I guess.

And by the way, this might sound like a stupid question (because, well, it is and I haven't listened to it in a while) but this isn't the full show of the 8 Iz Enuff freestyle, is it? There's practically no talking or banter from what I remember and sometimes tracks cut off abruptly at the end (like with the 8 Iz Enuff Freestyle in particular, which I've had, probably cut out of this tape, for years). It seems like some compilation almost. There's no interviews with the freestyles or anything leading up to them.

No prob.
Not the whole show. The show's were rarely ever less than 3 and a half hours from what
I remember. So, even the alleged full shows on the net usually aren't full
shows. When heads were taping, usually they would pause when it was a
song they had or didn't like, to save tape space. A lot of nights I taped were
two full 90 minute cassettes, both sides, and still had some talking cut out.

There's just no way a full show would clock in at under three hours.
Sorry.

Yeah, I'm hoping that one day between the internet, people involved with the
show, and the tapers, we will eventually have all the real full shows collected.
And it is possible. I remember there was a listener who called in alot named
"Old School Randy Rand". If I'm remembering right, he had basically every
single full show up to a certain point. Not to mention tons of other stuff I don't
remember.

That's what I'm talking about! Like all in chronological order and shit.

Btw the prices are getting steeper for these tapes! The latest WKCR tape put up on eBay sold for 91 beans this afternoon... To give you a perspective, the recording for this show has already been circulating all over the web, unlike the ones (some with exclusives) that have sold in the 70 dollar range thus far and have yet to be circulated.

WOW!! Thank you Thomas! I doubt my own memory sometimes.
This right here just gave me some confidence back.
Damn, Randy Rand needs to post here.
I doubt he's even online much, though.
He's serious about the "Old School" part of his name.
The last memory I have of one of his calls, he was selling original,
still in the box, boomboxes from the 80's that had the tape player where you put the cassette in the same way as a car's cassette player.

Damn, that's ridiculous.
Any of the thousands and thousands of heads that still got boxes and
boxes of tapes can just dub them shits and make a killing with them.
