Thank god it won't happen 'cause except for Voo the other guys are far from their prime these days. It probably would've been another dream reunion getting destroyed by mediocre music....

Well-known tracks with some new song titles, but it's great to get CD-quality versions of their early 12" releases. Nevertheless, this album is more important than any fuckin' post-millennium hip hop release. Damn, I miss the good old days when skilled MCs formed crews to get their hustle on...

I can confirm that this release date stands. There are 3 new tracks here. All recorded around 2003-ish. Pretty sure none of these aren't produced by Char. 'More Than Vocals' is produced by someone called Louie

In terms of the new track Off Beat Bop is the best one IMO.

Okay I'm not gonna complain about this at all.
I'll definitely buy it the day it drops.
This is a great thing.

I'll just say that hopefully in a few years, we can get a promos,
demos, and freestyles project. Or something like that.

Smart move on their behalf.
I wonder wht's going on the 45s. Probably something not on the CD.
I wish they would bust out good quality versions of some of those
old promos on vinyl.

This bootleg recently was posted at the undergroundcomeup(not sure if it's their rip cause I seen T.R.O.Y. rips posted there before):

Truck Turner/Natural Elements split 12" bootleg:
A1 Truck Turner - Bring It To Da Cypher
A2 Truck Turner - Can I Bitch
B1 Natural Elements - Life Ain't Fair
B2 Natural Elements - Knick Knack

Code: Select all

http://www.mediafire.com/?kyovkzke2wg
Apparently this bootleg dropped in 98.
Can anyone pinpoint what year "Life Ain't Fair" was made, though?
Or do you think it was 1998? I think earlier, I dunno.
This is one I didn't have on tape until maybe 2001, when I got it from
a friend's tape.

liner notes say all tracks recorded in 1999
Off Beat Bop is insane, prod by Sebb and recorded and mixed by breezly brewin.
Young Guru and Breez recorded and mixed most of it + kenny diaz
this is a really good listen, even if you heard a lot of the material. CDs should be available soon plus that digital and limited vinyl
buy this shit

Shit, good combination. I'm guessing that this is the same Sebb that did the
Juggaknots beat for "Generally" under the name "Smoke Signals"?
If so, he also did this beat here for Smiley Ghetto Child or Casualty-
<object width="320" height="265"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/r7msm34E8j8&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/r7msm34E8j8&hl ... 2=0x999999" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="265"></embed></object>
The credits on this record always confused me. Is it Smiley rhyming?

I believe you, but I don't believe the liner notes.
The singles were obviously recorded much earlier than 1999.
And honestly a couple of tracks sound later than 1999, but I
might be wrong. "Shine" doesn't sound like too good of quality from the
snippets.
"By Nature", I could swear that they recycled that beat from a different song they did.
"Survive" is the best sounding song here that I don't every word to.
"Tell Me Some...", meh, "NE Thang", meh.
I'll most def cop, though.

I just wanna know what the deal with the vinyls is before I go and buy the
CD.

Just listened to the previews, a lot of it sounds like leftovers from Tommy Boy Black Label LP sessions. Not trying to complain, but the album was already hugely disappointing to begin with.

"Survive" is a dope track but a high quality version was already leaked years ago under the name "Infinite"...'97 i believe.

I wonder if the older, dirtier stuff will ever be unearthed to the masses. Charla needs to give it up!

The homey Werner Von Wallenrod breaks down the tracklist and more,
here-
http://wernervonwallenrod.blogspot.com/ ... e-for.html
1) "NE Season" - This was track #12 on the leaked version, so already we're out of sequence with the Tommy Boy LP, but that's the least of the differences we're going to see moving forward.

2) "2 Tons" - The big Tommy Boy single, of course, and one of their best ever.

3) "Bust Mine" - The old Dolo single? Yup. It seems like we're going into a bit of a 'Natural Elements' Greatest Hits' run here.

4) "Tri-Boro" - 'Greatest Hits...'

5) "Paper Chase" - More 'Greatest Hits.' I wish they would've left these off to make room for more unreleased material; but there's plenty of that still to come, so can't complain too much.

6) "Supreme Domination" - Whoa. An unreleased Fortress-era track (that I wrote about in HHC, here)? NOW we're talkin'!

7) "Livin It Up" - Second single from Tommy Boy, though surprisingly it wasn't on the album as leaked. But Traffic threw it on here.

8) "Shine" - Back to 'Greatest Hits' steez. ::shrug::

9) "Off Beat Bop" - Whoa! Never heard this before... A "new" song that wasn't on the Tommy Boy leak - sweet!!

10) "By Nature" - This was on the album, and has been floating around the 'net, often titled "Take a Trip Into the Mind."

11) "Intricate Plot" - This was on the album. Remember, though; this is the first time these "album" tracks are getting a legit release, so even though I say "this was on the album," it's still completely, previously unreleased.

12) "Survive" - Traffic's taking it back again. This is an old song from the early NE days that'd only seen release on the bootleg EP from Word of Mouth (which I detail here).

13) "Second Hand Smoke" - This was on the album.

14) "Tell Me Something Good" - This was on the album.

15) "NE Thing" - This was on the album.

16) "Paper Chase Pt. 2" - This was on the album, and also the Word of Mouth boot, where it was titled "Paper Chase 2005."

17) "Livin It Up Pt. 2" - Again, this was released on single from Tommy Boy, but wasn't featured on their version of the album. But it's on this one. Nothing new, but the more the merrier, right?

18) "NE Definitely" - This was on the album and the Word of Mouth EP.

19) "More Than Vocals (MTV)" - A track that NE recorded after being dropped from Tommy Boy that's been floating around the 'net, and another one I covered in my HHC piece.

20) "First Of All" - Odd that the album's intro is stuck on as the last track, but what the hey? This seems to be slightly shorter than the version included on the leak AND the EP (I refer you to my EP review, again, for the differences between the two). Is this possibly a third edit? Or maybe it's just mixed a little faster.

Dope! Hopefully it's reasonably priced.

By the way, I remember seeing an ad in Blaze magazine back in about 1999 for a Charlemagne solo album called something like "Slept on Until Now". Did any tracks ever emerge from that? I think it was going to be released on Nervous (I seem to remember it was a split ad with that and Nervous's Hip Hop Independents Day volume 2 compilation).

This.

Not that I'm complaining about CDQ Natural Elements tracks being released (with decent distribution, no less) in 2009, but I think they could have done better. The dorks would have really appreciated a two-disc set of "greatest hits," freestyles, and unreleased stuff. 1993-2001.

Also, I've got a bunch of the Tommy Boy Black promos that were pressed up and true to word they are definitely not all that. I think I already mentioned this in the "Thun's Radio Show" thread where I get all misty-eyed about college radio and talk about rescuing Ras Kass promos from dumpsters and shit, but fuck it.

Hasn't the Tommy Boy Black album been in circulation on the 'net for damn near 5 years now anyway?

That's a Dj Spinna beat.
I forget which one though.
Makes sense, too, cause he used to host Underground Railroad for
a little while back then.
