Saafir VS Extra Prolific

Post by Mr. J Selectah »

Is there any parallel between these two? Besides being from the west of course...however with no relation (not even indirectly, since the battle between Saafir and Casual)...Saafir is more intriguing with his complex metaphors, delivery and production (even tho it's not his own)...but Extra P. is not your everyday all day producer either, got a style of his own, and his voice is kinda like a trademark...and another thing, both are best known for their first album, being their post-works (from 1996-99), too underrated...which one do you like the most, Saafir or Extra Prolific?

One of my favorite albums from the Heiro camp, on some chill-out shit. A little dated but definite replay value all the way through.

Only the first albums from these guys should be considered anyway, because their later output is kinda doo-doo. I was never able to get into "Boxcar Sessions" although I can see why some people herald it as this amazing West Coast album...I dunno.

The Saafir record, in my opinion, is more important for the scene it helped nuture than its content. It came at a time when everyone in Cali was hoo-ridin' and bandanna swangin' and shit and it flipped the script on what everybody thought a West Coast rap album was supposed to sound like, and in my mind "Boxcar Sessions" is the logical forerunner to all those early Living Legends tapes, Kemetic Suns, Bored Stiff, Nitrous Ox, Sacred Hoop, etc.

The dudes had one tape, self-titled and it's really fucking good. It was upped in the Request Thread a minute ago.

Saafir with ease, Boxcar Sessions is one of my all time favorite albums and Saafir's style/flow/lyrics to a slightly lesser though underrated extent are on some next shit to this day.

Saafir is probably the fan favorite among those who don't speak English, are caucasians with dreadlocks, or go for months without showering.

Everyone else understands that Extra Prolific's debut is far superior. I need to check out his other two tapes, thanks so much for posting them.

I'd probably have appreciated Saafir more when I was younger but his delivery is just too annoying for me to listen to now. Extra Prolific.

Co-sign that... but I woudn't bother with either of the later albums... they both pretty :larry: IMO.

...and the dude fell of even harder later on when he "found the light" and joind a CHRISTIAN RAP DUO. :ohsh: :ohsh: :ohsh:
Snupe is a Christian rapper now.....
Believe it or not, Duane "Snupe" Lee is in a Christian rap duo. He now goes by the name Lee Majors.....I didn't believe it either but here is his myspace......http://www.myspace.com/whitemajors He wasn't kidding about havin' church today!!!! Oh by the way, it's pretty crappy......Not to dis anyone's beliefs but the music he's doing is downright cheesy, Christian or not.

saafir by a mile.
i liked extra pro's debut (haven't heard any albums after that though) but boxcar sessions has some serious classic joints on it. saafirs style was ridiculous back then. his releases after "BS" left a lot to be desired.
honestly, i don't even really see why anyone would compare the two in the first place.
