Everybody so far has got some killer cuts on their comps. Good shit.
aReal: 02-Godfather Don - Live And Let Die (1999)- Absolutely the most slept
on banging cut on that GFD album.
aleph: 11 Binkis- Bullitt (2002 Fondle Em)- I really wanted to use some Binkis
but it's tough to gauge what years they made certain tracks, props.
nojiveturkey: 10. Bamboo - From the Get Up (1999)- Straight banger.
Markshot: 11. J-Live - Wax Paper- One of his best tracks ever, imo.
Freezy Pazzy: 10. ED O.G. "I Feel You"- Nice Edo pick, great track.

Skeptic, you should probably throw together a quick comp for this, judging
from your picks on the last page.

Word, I bump that song hard and am the only person I know who does. I wouldn't even care too much if what he said made no sense, that flow is bonkers

Yeah, it's amazing how many indie joints there are to choose from and yet looking so far at the entries, there's 2 joints there I seriously considered. If Self Scientific's Return were used by everyone, it would have been justified, that shit's an anthem afaic.

You ain't kidding Verge. I wanted to put a Jax cut in, something from Observ or JFK. I knew I heard tons of Binkis and Jax (& Flux and Killa Kalm) way before 2002 (played on CM Famalam of course), but since he doesn't have much listed on discogs.com I could never be sure when they were actually released.

I wanted to comment on this before, but the I think the years 1998-02 are the perfect parameters to set for this competition. Coincidentally, for a TROY era head like me this was the last gasp of good hip hop. There were actually quite a few early 2003 cuts I was sorry I couldnג€™t use, but by mid 03 I stopped following hip hop altogether. Not to shit on great music that came out since then, but it brings to mind a Bobbito interview I read on the internet somewhere shortly after his retirement, in which he was asked why he stopped doing radio. He replied that in his heyday (Iג€™m paraphrasing here), his must-play list for any given show was too long to get through, and that list got shorter and shorter in his last couple of years, until of course there was no point in doing a show. I think most old-fogy TROY members share his taste and his views on the music in the early part of the millennium.

I realize Iג€™m editorializing here, but for me, getting this list together and listening to the dope entries so far has been like a celebration of the last great period.

Yes, it's sad though, but I fully agree with you here. The sound got changed in an almost mysterious way. The cause of that I will leave un-said.

The Binkis joint, 'Bullit' dropped on Fruitmeat (the label Bobbito set-up after Fondle Em) in 2003. I've never seen or heard of it dropping on Fondle Em.

There was a lot of crazy unheard shit to learn from every mix here, but aREAL and WoofY deserve some sort of prize for having the deepest HD crates... Looks like I have the shallowest, ankle deep really.

Heheh, thanks aleph! You do deserve the most props though for all the insane demos you've dug up.

That's what's up!

On topic: What happens now with this thread? Would suck if it just died out..

I think starting monday we should have a poll. Every one should take the weekend to download the mixes and compare.
