Busta Rhymes/J. Dilla

Post by paul_smith »

First of all, I'm a massive Busta fan.He has his fair share of unlistenable material, but a lot of his stuff, due to nostalgical reasons or not, is great imho.Besides his group stuff, I'm particularly keen on his work with ATCQ and Dilla. So I was pleasantly surprised when Mick Boogie and Busta decided to drop the Dillagence mixtape, which was pretty enjoyable.Around the same time I decided to compile most of the tracks Dilla and Busta did together and the result wasn't bad at all

So, here it is

Code: Select all

01.Busta Rhymes ft. Rampage- Abandon Ship (Remix)

02.Busta Rhymes - Enjoy Da Ride

03.Busta Rhymes ft. tracy Leila - The Genesis

04.Busta Rhymes ft. Q-Tip - Ill Vibe (Remix)

05.Busta Rhymes ft. Meka - It Ain't Safe No More

06.Busta Rhymes ft. Zhane - It's A Party (remix)

07.Leaders Of The New School - Keep It Movin'

08.Busta Rhymes - Live It Up

09.Busta Rhymes ft. Tracy Leila - Make It Hurt

10.Consequence ft. Busta Rhymes - Riot

11.Busta Rhymes - Show Me What You Got

12.Slum Village ft. busta Rhymes - Slum Village a.k.a. What It's All About

13.Busta Rhymes - So Hardcore

14.A Tribe Called Quest ft. Busta Rhymes & Redman - Steppin' It Up

15.Busta Rhymes - Still Shining

16.Slum Village ft. Busta Rhymes - The Hustle

17.Busta Rhymes - Turn Me Up Some

18.A Tribe Called Quest ft. Busta Rhymes - Wild Hot

19.Busta Rhymes - Woo Hah (Remix)

20.Busta Rhymes ft. Q-Tip & Chauncey Black - You Can't Hold A Torch

tracks 01,02,03,04,05,08,09,11,12,16,17,19,20 Produced by Jay Dee a.k.a. J-Dilla

tracks 06,07,10,13,14,15,18 Produced by The Ummah
The file also contains a small list of tracks not included for whatever reasons

so glad that didnt happen. Busta's great for a guest spot and has some classic singles but would you really want him on 'Electric Relaxation', 'The Jam', 'Lyrics To Go' etc ?

Really. Like you said, he was a great guest, like on Scenario or 1,2 Shit, but I wouldn't have wanted to hear him on much other Tribe stuff.

BTW, thanks for this comp, paul.

I wouldn't mind hearin Busta on more Tribe songs, but more so as a background hype element than an MC, like on Oh My God and God Lives Through. Not that he's not a good MC, but I think his energetic presence and style on the mic would overpower the rest of the group, Tip & Phife are more laid back in comparison.

Definately not. Wouldn't be too bad on some of their stuff like Phony Rappers and most of that album to be honest. He's definately not an MC that would mesh well with them though. Glad it didn't happen. Besides Busta's work with LONS and his first 3 albums, I don't like him. He's been horrible for the past couple of years, but I'll still give this a listen.

yea i feel like "1,2 shit" was a test run for the ATCQ+Busta model and you can hear him trying to hold back in an almost awkward way.....he didnt find his "mellow" flow until later....now he's all cool and tough guy bs...his dilla collabos were what kept me listening as the albums/he got less and less interesting
