An interview, freestyling and comedy by Akinyele up at Future Flavaz, sometime in the late 90's during his sophomore album Aktapuss.

Ak sounds like he's really loving life in this interview, almost to the point of insanity lol. I didn't really know what to expect from him as a guest at this point, after he went from The Bomb and Live at The BBQ into that sexaholic phase. I don't blame him in getting it in with the females as much as possible as an MC now that I look back, there's much worse examples of it in the history of Hip Hop. I still have yet to pick up Akatapuss, but I think I'ma check it out now, whoever has heard it, let me know.
aight aight that was good shit right there

Good shit, fellas. The Stretch n Bob shit's hardly close to being dead william g., just for the record. We have a few heads that are and will be bringing more and more rips and October will be Stretch n Bobbito month on the TROY blog. This will be historic shit by the time we finish.

I agree with the illest about S&B being a waste of time on posting the Hot 97 shows unless you want them for completist reasons or dj reasons. they played no exclusives or demos on those.

I had taped Future Flavaz a few times but usually forgot iit was on. One of the tapes I had had Primo on there playing demos that he produced of no name cats, to me, at the time. I'd love to hear those again and see who the demos were from. Shit;s were dope from what I can remember.
Not trying to come of as a negative nelly here, that's not my job here.

Keep keepin on. Thanks for the rips so far.

That sounds like a similar experience I had with Stretch & Bob on Hot 97 Verge. There were some dope moments on that show though if ya look hard enough, like their B-Side show when A Tribe Called Quest & Consequence came up and freestyled over an unreleased beat b4 Beats Rhymes & Life dropped. I've got a killer freestyle that La The Darkman did up on their Hot 97 show that I'll post soon.

The most painful shit was when the bling/floss era started to take over in the late 90's and Stretch just switched his play format all of a sudden. Most the songs I heard if I tuned in by accident I don't even remember today, plus those artists are now nowhere to be found except maybe The LOX and Jay-Z. I think Bobbito left the Hot 97 show at one point, that's when Stretch made the switch.

I'll see what FF I've got for next week to post, I look forward to other people's tapes too.

Yeah, man. I'm guessing that I just had enough shows that were playing craziness to worry about at the time, and while I was proud and happy that S&B got on Hot97, it was still like a "best of" of what the real show was. And, you know, I was younger and runnin the streets and all that so I didn't keep this show a priority.
But, like you said, they still came through with some gravy biscuits and I wish I didn't miss them but am ever so grateful that others did catch them and taped, and might rip them. :gyeah:

I do believe that Stretch's concentration on the Hot 97 show(and the bs bling, thug ish) and kind of abandonment of the KCR show may have been the last straw on the show's back. Don't quote me because I'm not definite and also, I was unable to listen or tape from early April 1998 until January 2001, so all I had to go by was word of mouth from one of my former running partners who was still "in the mix" of everything at the time.

Looking forward to that La The Darkman freestyle and anything else heads got to share!

Here's an episode of Future Flavaz with Cappadonna & Ol' Dirty Bastard around 1997 during "The Pillage", it was when Slang Editorial was circulating as a single & video. That song hits me as a real interesting soul loop still to this day, it's got an interesting dark vibe to it.

You'll hear a couple promos specially made for the show and unreleased Pete Rock beats. Ol' Dirty Bastard adds alot of character to this episode, he breaks out into song during the end lol.

Word, good shit Brandon. thanks!! Did you ever hear ODB on SnB before his album when he went up there with Buddha Monk and 60 Second Assassin? He killed shit from the start singing/yelling/screaming... Really classic shit, imo.

Oh yeah, I remember that episode on 89.9, I've got it at my Soundcloud right now along with an appearance at WHCR FM before Return To The 36 dropped. That was a wild and funny time for Hip Hop because of ODB.

Prodigy & Noyd visit Pete Rock & Marley Marl on Hot 97 FM sometime in between The Infamous & Hell On Earth for an interview and freestyle, Havoc calls up the show by phone because he couldn't make it that day.

This is the whole show so listen close, you might catch some slept-on gems spun by Pete from the 1996 era, this show mighta been the 1st time I heard Slum Village.

If you have memories of when you first heard or bought Hell On Earth feel free to share those too, it's definitely one of those albums I can't forget.
Aside the impact of the Mobb sound in the streets, I remember this was the era of dope Avirex leather jackets in New York that came in multiple styles/colors. Hav & P got them on in the videos for Hell On Earth & GOD Pt. 3.

Being an avid fan of hiphop im still uncovering various jems and appreciate all the work some you go through to uncover rare shit. Cant take modern day radio. i've been trying to educate myself on shows that are missing today. Besides this and SnB show what other radio shows were hitting off as well during the early nineties era?

Word, welcome to the forum.
There was maaad shows that basically all had a little something different back then. I'm talking strictly NY/Nj/Philly here cause I wouldn't know much about outside this area aside from Sway n King Tech in cali and kev beacham's Time Travel Radio in Chicago.
Out here we had WNYU that had a few different shows through the years, from Martin Moore n Mayhem to Mayhem n Sunset to Dj Riz, Eclipse, many shows off that station that I'm probably wrong about the exact names. All I know is that the one up that WNYU had on WKCR was the fact that Natural Elements were pretty much regulars and gave them real ill promos that weren't played elsewhere. They're also the only station that had the Half A Mill demos from 95 and he used to swing through there and drop the funky freestyles a lot.
We also had WNWK with shows like The Awesome Two, Hank Love And Half Pint, Dirty dozen , Pirate Radio...etc..
WPRB outta Princeton NJ had Vibes And Vapors but I could hardly ever get a signal from in jersey city.
There's more. Others feel free to add on and correct my mistakes.

You know what's rare..

I've NEVER seen any DJ CASH MONEY radio mixes from Philly stations online.

The show that LADY B hosted in the 80's and early 90's.

I believe it was "Power 99" WUSL if i'm not mistaken.

Maaan,i'd love to get some Cash Money radio mixes from the old days.

I'm pretty sure JAZZY JEFF did some Philly radio shows back in the day as well.

Im glad to be here and sooner rather then later. i feel and love everything this forum is trying to do and represents. Sounds like there was more going on in terms of radio then i had imagined, i forgot for a minute that there was like 52 states lol

Apologies for the stupidity but I dont know the difference between Future Flavas and the Mic Check Show, both are mentioned on this recording, as is Funkmaster Flex, as is BOLTHIZAR [is that KRS' pet-name for Flex] ?

I have other Mic-Check shows with old school artists [Fearless and CC4] and there is no reference made to Future Flavas. Maybe what I have here is a tape that has been pause buttoned, the levels are slightly variable at times so who knows, all help is appreciated. The quality is duffo I gotta admit, but the guests are good. My guess is its 94, but Rahzel states 95 in his flow...

Freestyles from KRS & Just-Ice, PMD & Das EFX, and the famous Scarface & Serch session too.

Enjoy

Does anyone have any of the Pirate Radio Shows from '96/'97 where Marly Marl would link up with Sway & King Tech of The Wake Up Show through the phone? That shit was ill. I have a Wake Up Show that combined Pirate Radio where Marley had Royal Flush with him in the studio. I don't thinki ever posted that tape yet. I don't think I taped the whole show though.

Do any of you even remember when Pirate Radio and The Wake Up Show were doing that?
"Wicked = Genuinely loves Hiphop and respects it because he grew up during the time when it wasn't full of southern mongoloids and Lil Wayne rappers. From his mixes you can tell he knows his shit. The problem is, when you are a smart dude preaching to a bunch of fucking morons, you end up getting singled out as the douche."
