Who here has a blog?

Post by Thun »

Name your blog, give us a brief description, and point us to the url.

I am following many of you but nowhere near all. I'd like to be able to point TROY readers in the direction of good material.

In addition to helping moderate BigLOnline and these forums, I run:

Big L Rarities

http://biglrarities.blogspot.com

and

Big L Affiliates

http://biglaffiliates.blogspot.com

Kinda self explanatory, L material you will found there first, interviews, videos, pictures, music, news and information. Both aren't actually all that worth it to start following at the moment because they need to be updated and revamped anyway.

But that's only because I'm also working on:

The Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito Show

http://stretchandbobbito.blogspot.com

It's an archival of everything Stretch and Bob. Right now it's incomplete as well but worth following as I work on it everyday to some degree, either directly or indirectly. Eventually the goal is to have compiled everything available from the Skinny Bonz, DJ Stretch Armstrong, Boogie & the Barber, XL and CM Famalam shows. Props to everybody who's helped in T.R.O.Y. and around the internet.

And last but certainly not least, I contribute to:

The T.R.O.Y. Blog

http://thetroyblog.com

Which is a no-brainer, you should all be following that one if you're not already and I'm not just sayin' that 'cause I write for 'em. They bridge the gap between the nostalgic nineties we grew up on and the new scenes of today. I can't really sum it up more than that, we provide everything over there and there's nothing else quite like it.

See signature, kinda inactive at the moment though.

Usually I just post music I love to listen to, some random VLS drops here & there, a few compilations etc.

blog has been quiet this year but I have suddenly stepped into alot of free time. So with that, I will be making at least 1 post a week to empty out my archives.

blog is built around Columbus Ohio hiphop and Ohio hiphop in general. There are a couple of tapes I have from the mid 90's that I will post in this forum as soon as I upload them because they fit very well with the nature of this forum and I am sure heads will enjoy them.

But I am also a very big mixtape head and will be uploading alot of mixtapes from my collection that I have not seen posted on the mixtape blogs I follow. There are also quite a few of columbus dj mixtapes I have, including RJD2's 1st mixtape from '97, that I will be throwing up and hopefully educating the folks in this city that actually give 2 fucks... not sure if there are 2 people that even give 2 fucks.

www.listentowhatyouhear.blogspot.com

It's more or less just a diary for me with music. I had a blog a few years ago, but got bored within a couple of weeks. Then last winter there was a blizzard and I was just posting mad youtube videos on Facebook and by boy was like why don't you just start a blog? So I did.

Not much exclusive shit, but like I said, it is more of a diary for me and for the few people who actually read. It's fun, though. I am not much of a writer, bit I have a lot to say. lol I have used one or two things I have gotten from this board, but I always give props where it is due.

Thanks, bruv. Much appreciated. I've struggled to keep it regularly updated - life changes (Wife being up-the-duff again and the preparations for the next sprog, under-taking an attempted career change having me working 6 days a week to get this Tattoo aprenticeship happening, etc) have really restricted my productivity, but I do try and get something on there as often as possible. Thanks for checking.

From the latest to the greatest, that pretty much sums it up...

Im an ex-Rap journo, record store honcho and studio-engineer, he's an ex-record store honcho and under-appreciated and under-paid beat maker...

Together, as actual ageing B-Boys, we have 51 years of Hip-Hop and Rap behind us, true story, were OLD...

...and as the industry sucks butt, and because the mind is a terrible thing to waste, why not ?

HOTASBALLS is just for giggles an shits; old as well as new Rap that for some unknown reason we still enjoy [we both imagined we'd hate all Hip-Hop after 88].

Sir Styles is a breaks fiend, possibly the most knowledgable man I know on breaks, and im, well, its mostly throwback stuff that I post.

Rap radio is my main thing but basically, we'll both just post anything kinda Rap related we like, and we do...Audio-books, cassette rips, smart-dumb youtube clips and generally anything that has influenced or inspired us via Hip-Hop.

TBH. We dont take too much too seriously but were probably gon give it up soon as the numbers are surprisingly big for the effort we put in, but barely anyones got anything to say still. Its a weird one when you know people are lurkin but it still creeps me out when they dont speak, must be my gregarious and talkative Irish ways.

I'd sooner shoot the shit with a bunch of strangers about nonsensical Hip-Hop detritus than have surprisingly big numbers of downloads with only a few folk actually talkin [not so] loud and [still] sayin nuthin...

NB. Ageing b-boys/ grumpy old men...

i dont think you're alone as far as the lack of comments go mate. I have occasionally wondered what sort of download stats other blogs get though.
I'll usually get a minimum of 100-200 on a post but some thing seem to go through the roof (Im guessing they get posted elsewhere)

I dont have numbers for my earlier drops but my most popular downloads Ive had are:

Funk Flex & Westwood Dec 94 - 696
Funk Flex - Hot 97 Street Jams Oct 95 - 474
London Posse on Kiss FM - 637
Marley Marl & Clark Kent on WBLS 1989 - 524
Lord Finesse - World Series Out Of The Blue mixtape - 518
All ABout The Benjamins (OG unreleased version) - 1185

We just mucked about initially, now were gettin unexpectedly big amounts of readers every month after 800 posts, for abso no push or promo. We attach our name to comments we make elsewhere, but that is the extent of our marketing and promotion....of course, were happy about havin people enjoy our output but the leeching element grieves us both too, cant win

I personally think its my background/ heritage and talkative nature that almost requires that back and forth, that bit o' banter, just out of pure enthusiasm for the same shit that excited us when we were teens. That may sound odd but were a chatty bunch

Image

The History of Hip-Hop drop is a perfect example, look at the amount of rips from my original upload, and then take a peek back to how many commented... zip

Because the drop got appreciated by TROY way back, and again last week [and via a couple of other sites], that is enough for me, im satisfied with no comments, I couldnt give a feck, really, im just happs that folk enjoy the shit, period, but a wee bit o craic wouldnt go amiss.

Of course, when you get folk like Jus Blaze hittin ye up and givin ye props just for postin old Spoonie Gee songs from YouTube, well, its just an extra wee buzz to be appreciated for just likin dope shit[#realtalk]
