Songs About Time Travelling To Kill Slavemasters

Post by Thun »

Yeah I know this is an oddly specific request.

There are a lot of songs that are about slavery, and some that even take on a first person account of the experience, but are there any songs that ya'll know of that depict travelling back in time to exact revenge on slavemasters, colonists, etc.?

The one example I'm aware of is a pretty rare song, Ganjah K "Time Warp":

Any others that fit this category?

The Time Haters" (March 31, 2004)

Silky Johnston: Uh-oh, fellas! Looks as though we have company.
Slave master: What the hell are you n***** doing out here?
Silky Johnston: We are the Time Haters. We travelled all the way back through time... to call yuh a cracker.
Slave master: You better watch your mouth.
Buck Nasty: Actually you better watch your mouth white boy, before I shove these gators up your ass and show yo' insides some style.
Slave master: ENOUGH! <cracks whip>
Beautiful: I-I can't be no slave, Silky! <runs off>
Buck Nasty: Look Silky, he done pulled out a whip.
Silky Johnston: Nice whip. This here is a pistol. Reach for the sky, honky!
Slave: Honky? HONKY?
Silky Johnston: "Honky" is a racial epithet used for white people. It was made popular by a man named George Jefferson in the 1970s. You see, he and his wife, Weezie, owned a dry-cleaning business, so they moved on up to the east side, to a deluxe apartment in the sky. They finally got a piece of the pie. Convoluted story I'll admit, but the point is this... that in the future, all black people will be FREE!
Slave: When's we gonna be free?
Silky Johnston: That is a good question my man. How about now-ish? <shoots the slave owner, the scene is repeated 3 times>

There is a Defari song with this concept. It's okay for a Defari song:

I agree that the whole album is good, but that's because of the production. Defari is pretty much a non-factor on the mic.

^I don't know, I think he does the whole LA backpacker style pretty well. He's not hype on the mic but he has a distinctive style and something to say. It's not like he's Mike Zoot or one of the second tier Living Legends.

agree with Thun here
the beats banged hard on focused daily they are a huge factor. but i think he has a great voice, and he always seemed pretty intelligent to me and the album lyric wise is pretty versatile imo.

in fact im gonna dl that shit now to listen to it. i have it at home but not on my pc

Word. This and Ice Cube's "I Wanna Kill Sam" are similar in that they describe the revenge impulse without enacting it.

Good idea for going back to pull out some overlooked songs from the shelves, I always felt the anger some MCs had for slavery here and there, but never focused on the topic as much as other parts of Hip Hop as a listener.

I remember that video for PE's Can't Truss It very well, that had good cinematography. I Wanna Kill Sam was a powerful song, Ice Cube's rage was deep on his 2nd LP.

Can't think of any one song in particular right now, but one thought that came to mind was Eddie's slave skit on Delirious, talkin bout how modern day Soul brothers would act if they went back in time and dealt with da slave mastas, shit always cracks me up. I like the version he did of this routine better on the actual comedy album though:

Don't forget Pharcyde's Runnin' video where the roles are now reversed.
