I love me some Weather Report, but this album is my personal favorite. It has a strange and eerie vibe but stays diverse and fresh throughout. It has samples for O.C.'s Can't Go Wrong and Kool G Rap's 4,5,6 as well.

This album's really from '69, but I got it in a double album combo with the 1970 Hancock album Mwandishi. It was Herbie's first attempt at a funky album and smashing success. It was centered around soundtrack music Hancock made for Bill Cosby and is a precursor to the sound Hancock would later develop on Headhunters.

1. "Wiggle-Waggle" - (5:51)
2. "Fat Mama" - (3:49)
3. "Tell Me a Bedtime Story" - (5:01)
4. "Oh! Oh! Here He Comes" - (4:08)
5. "Jessica" - (4:13)
6. "Fat Albert Rotunda" - (6:29)
7. "Lil' Brother" - (4:26)

Just came across this:
http://rappamelo.com/2010/12/herbie-hancock-albums/
Looks like Hancock's whole discography as a frontman.

Can't remember if that blog has been mentioned here yet, but I've found tons of great stuff on there.

Great thread, not to jump all the way back to page 1 but that Japanese soundtrack is good stuff. I'll see if I can find anything to contribute to this thread but it seems like you guys already are hitting up the same blogs I do (milkcrate, blaxploitationpride, warbles, rappamello, neverenoughrhodes, flabbergastedvibes, joeblow, etc.)

Here's a prettty decent one, I didn't see it mentioned but I might have missed it.

Fuuuck, sorry guys, i haven't been up in here for some time. All of those Pulp Fusion joints got gems on them, thanks JankZ. That Cornbread Earl and Me shit is ill too. It got that Gangstarr "Say You Prayers" sample and Roots "Silent Treatment remix" sample on it. I got the movie on a Soul cinema dvd somewhere around my living room. Didn't realize it was actually about that writer, thanks.

I'm downloading that Jap album now, thanks king beef.

How does that Ginger Baker collaboration compare to Fela Kuti's singles? The one you upped is the only release I have from him.

About 10 minutes ago I discovered this dank instrumental record that has apparently been in my iTunes since August 27. So far, it's the best album I've heard recently so I'm not sure why I never listened to it before.
Image
Eddie Fisher & The Next Hundred Years (1971)
For some reason this reminds me of the reggae album Ranglin Roots.

Also heard this today:
Sort of like a faster version of "Night Of The Purple Moon" with some Indian influence.

I don't remember which Fela I upped prior to this, but on first listen this is very similar to Fela's regular stuff with perhaps a little more pronounced guitar work on some tracks, but Baker's drumming creates a really cool dynamic with Fela's percussion section. Also, this is a live album so there's that.

Doesn't really answer you question too well. My guess is if you like what you've heard from Fela or any of Baker's early post-Cream work, you'll dig this.

You answered my question in reverse. The only one I have is the Ginger Baker one and I was wondering what else I should get from Fela.

Two incredible jazz albums I've been feelin' recently:
