Best album of 1991?

Post by step one »

Great year for albums, all these see their 20th anniversary this year.

Favourites? Which ones have aged the best? Any that could benefit from a Traffic style reissue package?

Theres probably a few Ive forgotten but these were the ones that came to mind first..

Death Certificate, closely followed by Low End Theory.

We Can't Be Stopped is my wild card pick though.

All still hold up. Black Sheep is my fave from the bunch, but Breaking Atoms ftw for 1991's bestest.

Id prob go with Death Certificate aswell. Still sounds great now.
I prefer the beats on Breaking Atoms to Low End Theory, so that would probably be 2nd.

That Geto Boys album could do with a remastering.

Mr Scarface Is Back which was also from 1991 is much better than We Can't Be Stopped, which isn't a patch on Grip It.. or Til Death Do Us Part aside from the few obvious tracks.

1. Death Certificate
2. Is Dead
3. A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing
4. O.G
5. Low End Theory/Efil4zaggin

Cant believe I forgot 'Step In Arena'. I remembered OG but thought it was 1990 for some reason.

UMCs and Organized Konfusion dropped aswell that year right?

Lot of good 12"s too.

:err: at some of these responses.

There is no WAY that Redhead Kingpin is better than any of the jawns Step listed. Come on, man.

Honestly, I'd rather listen to Mr. Lawnge fart into a microphone than most of what's be posted in this thread.

But I'm the bad guy for pointing out there's a seriously annoying borked out new jack random rap contingent in full effect around these parts.

Hard decision, but there are a few at the top of the list. I can't choose between Low End Theory & Step In The Arena. I can't help but feel a little depressed when comparing that era's output to this.

Almost forgot about this '91 classic. Far superior to any album posted in the thread, and any album released in 1991 for that matter.

Forget the fact that Grand Hank (totally ill name btw!) never released a full-length record, each of the three songs (and their respective mixes/edits) contained on this genre-smashing piece of wax are better than "The Message," "Top Billin'," and "The World Is Yours" combined. Completely transcendent work and a damn shame Grand Hank never recorded anything else. I can't for the life of me figure out why this was in the "Free Bin" outside of that record shop, shit's got Amsterdam goin' nuts!!

I think the Two Kings in a Cipher album dropped in 91. Although, I wouldn't put it over Edo's album or the OK album, the Black Sheep album, or even Del's album but it still is a dope album from 91 that gets overlooked. And it has D-Dot production, so, hey.
