One of my favorite troy era tracks....

Post by night_shade »

Can we all just bask in the 1995 perfection that is this song? When I first heard this album I didn't listen to this song much, but over time it's become my favorite Mic Geronimo cut. It's got all my favorite elements: a good bass line, a distorted vibraphone sample, hard hitting drums, loads of reverb, dope scratching, two dope rappers whose styles compliment eachother, lyrics that are reflective but not whiny. I'm not always a fan of singing on rap records but I actually like it here. Love that "What does it all mean?" on the chorus too. Ah man, I don't think I'll ever get tired of this song.

Please don't hate me but I actually think it's the weakest track on that album. Maybe it's the singing (or warbling) that ruins it for me but compared to the rest of the album, it doesn't quite stand out for me. I do think that Mic Geronimo got a bit of a raw deal, should've been more successful than he actually was. 2nd lp was pretty bad though...

^ have to agree. revisited The Natural again recently and this track seems like a bit of a lightweight way to end the album. don't get me wrong it's not bad, but just seems a bit meh compared to most of the other tracks...

I like it too, minus the singing.

always lovely to see the range in opinion with some of these tracks. it has a nice thump to it imo. i'm not very familiar with mic geronimo's work though so I don't know how this ranks in comparison.

It is, isn't it? Especially when people are so respectful about it.

Ah man, no question The Natural imo...plus I think it's a more important album. Seems like Masta I.C. shook shit up when it came out, there's nothing like that on Ghetto Millionaire.

It's a cool song though it's hard for me to remember it well next to the other songs that seemed to fit Mic's musical identity better as a Queens MC who shined on rugged productions by Buckwild, Beatminez etc. I think songs like this on his debut that were a bit more smooth showed his desire to broaden his audience at a time when the lines were being drawn greater between mainstream and underground sounds. For what the song is I can appreciate it when looking back. When the album had just come out it was hard to appreciate though, since a host of other MCs incorporated singing in a more memorable way in my opinion while Mic seemed at his best without any singing.

Yeah, that's a gem of a release, heard it for the first time a few months ago. I really like the beat for "Keema Therapy", reminds me of this song a bit.

Natural for me. GM had a few nice tracks, some great production but MG carried the album much better than Flush did.
