One thing I would like to add, if I remember correctly, the chorus had a sampled vocal, "Bring it on".

Didn't Chief Kamachi, who is from Philly have a song called "The Best" that featured that exact hook? The only thing is it featured Guru so I would think you would know that. Plus it was more of an early 00s track. That's all I got.

EDIT:

That is the exact hook but the only thing in your description that fits.

Thank you for replying to my thread. It isn't Chief Kamachi by the way. Of course, it never hurts to inquire.

The actual song has a remarkably somber and introspective feel to it.

Unknown Philadelphia 1996 Track ID

Post by Eisbaer »

For 16 years I have been searching for a track that I heard on college radio back in 1996-1997. Unfortunately, I do not have an audio sample.

Here is what I know about the track.

1. The production has a classic jazz piano sample -- there is a lot of record popping noise, similar to Munk Wit Da Funk - I Been Here I'm Stayin'.

2. The artist mentions Philadelphia

3. There are at least two verses

4. The chorus has a vocal sample "Let me do my thing" -- I am not sure if this is Fat Joe from the D & D Allstars, but could be.

Please help me find this track. It is stuck in my head, but as I get older, the details become fuzzier.

Much appreciated!

This is a portion from mr. dibbs-the 30th song. the track it's off of is called "Redout Brick Hemmorage 3.5 / Mental Herpes" it appears to be a mix but it might be one of his own tracks. was wondering if anyone knows if this is a song he made or if it's a song he just used to mix.

There does exist this random hidden track on what I could have sworn was an album affiliated with Stones Throw in some variety. I might be wrong though. It's simply a singer who I assume must be famous/well known/revered to some effect at the time in which he is being recorded....pissed drunk.

So the recording on this hidden track is this singer/(maybe?)comedian rambling on for minutes with music going on casually in the background, more than likely his backing band kinda just keeping the groove going a little bit with mostly some ill bass licks and sparse drums while the whole time he trails off on a directionless tangent.

The only quote I can remember is "Teddy Pendergrass turned out [to be?] a fag."

The track ends almost abruptly, but not before he eventually breaks out into song with some classic James Brown grunts and wails.

I remember there was a time where I scoured Google for this when the source album was fresh in my brain. Perhaps someone here knows what I am talking about.
