I don't think that Sidewalk Skolaz CD ever came out? Mine is just a CDR with a lil kinkos style printed cover. Don't know if that is the real title, the front cover is filled with lyrics and that's just the first line.

thank you, this is hugely appreciated.

kevin, have you ever heard a record by an artist called nostalgia? has a 12" with a track called angel of death as well as two others. i have the vinyl and i haven't listened to it. i'm really just looking for some information on it, as i have no idea on the background of this record. either way i'll check it out myself tonight and put it up if it's dope enough.

You're the man.

According to the Sidewalk Skolaz myspace page:
the Sidewalk Skolaz started in 1988. consisting of (producer) Beatdaddyfish and (MC) Gspot the duo met each other in hi skool and started performing at partys and open mics calling themselve The Grass Is... and releasing thier first EP(recorded @ The Wild Hare. also the first ever live hip-hop recording released in chi) " You cant bluff Father Time or fool Mother Nature" in 1993 under the same name. in 1996 they started using a more traditional appraoch to hip-hop using samplers and turntables(everything else up to then had been performed live. with like real instruments and s**t) and decided to change thier name to the Sidewalk Skolaz. after recording 3 albums in thier home studio( Fish's spare room and storage closet) during '95-'98 and using chi's finest DJ's( 33 1/3rd, 3rd Rail, Precyse) they hooked up with DJ Mary Jane to record (and release this time) a 20 track full leangth on cd titled "Seek out truth" in '01. it was the bomb.
Three albums worth of material recorded between '95 and '98? To think that this stuff may never see the light of day. Such a shame.

OH yeah, you'll notice that the Sidewalk Skolaz will skip from track 16 to 21 that is because 17-20 where 8 sec empty spaces before the bonus cut which is 21.

I will hit up Fish from the Skolaz and see what they plan to do with that unreleased material. peace.

1)Masta Ace, Paula Perry, Lord Digga, Common, and I believe one of the
guys from East of the Rock Freestyle-WHPK Freestyle '93:

I did promo work for delicious vinyl and had Masta Ace in town to promote Slaughterhouse. I took him around to as many retail stores, radio shows, etc... as possible. This is the WHPK (Legendary Chicago Station!) visit where they are rocking off the new Common "Soul By The Pound" Remix and then Common shows up to drop something....

http://www.sendspace.com/file/jwwi8f

2)Godfather Don & Keige (of The Muddbones)-WKCR Promo #1 & #2

This might have been uploaded here before but just in case... Bob gave me this a while back and it's pretty classic stuff...

http://www.sendspace.com/file/e7jphp

3)Woody Rock-Bigger's Beat b/w I Introduce The Beat

This cat was down with the "Uptown's Kickin' It Crew" and his appearance on that posse cut was prob his career highlight. He also had a track called "Stress" on that Uptown Compilation. This is his 12" Produced by James Mtume on the New Jack Swing Tip. The "Bigger's Beat" song is listed as being on the soundtrack to the movie "Native Son"....for whatever that is worth...ha. I don't know much about him but someone asked me for this on myspace so If figured I'd throw it up here too.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/rad3kd

4)East Of The Rock (4 song demo): Been talked about a lot here so there's not much to say....the vinyl is mega rare and I'm not sure how many of there songs I'm missing. I got this demo back in '94/'95. The only other joint I know is the cut on Talent Fest. This Features: Egyptian Musk, Galaxy Rays, Mr Producer, Burnout Assassin. Great production and lyrics!! I need more info on this group!

http://www.sendspace.com/file/i3gdrq

5)Sudden Def-Def's Penalty: Rare chicago 12" from '92. I only have this track and it is :ohsh: High paced, complex, street rhymes.... I need the
rest of those tracks!

http://www.sendspace.com/file/qrovio

Sorry I haven't been too active the last week or two. Life has been crazy. I'll got a lot more to post up so I'll get to it all soon as I can. peace.

godmc wrote:kev, what's with the galaxy rays track in the file? it's over 23 minutes long and includes songs that weren't meant to be in the file (i think).
It's followed up by two East Of The Rock tracks, and the Drama (Rhymefest & Memo) EP from 1994. :ohsh:

That knocks another crucial release off of my want list.

hmmm...not sure how that happened... BONUS CUTs.... ha. Guess that's what happens when working on these things at 4/5 am...

it is two of the same East Of The Rock tracks and then the Draama Demo

Draama is Rhymefest and Memo:
1)Homewrecker
2)Lazy Rap
3)Empty Pockets

Kev, does this about cover Rhymefest's mid-90s discography?

Homewrecker
Lazy Rap
Empty Pockets
How We Chill
How We Chill Part 2
Keep The Fame
Much Of Nothing
Old School Tactics
Nomatta' Hu U.R.

It would be awesome if you hooked us up with that 3-2-96 Rhymefest & Juice freestyle session at some point.

I love me some mid-90s Rhymefest. :gyeah:

yeah, that looks like the bulk of his releases from the mid 90s...however, there are a few unreleased songs. I'll post them soon. Maybe I'll do Rhymefest and Juice post where I post all their Time Travel Freestyles too....

That's the only track of theirs that PNS used on the "Chicago Rocks" series. That kinda makes me think that they didn't release much else. Of course, they probably got a demo tape or something.

The Bulk cassette has a couple other variations as well: no Halfsharkalligator, Blue Flowers remix or 1977, but has an Earth People remix and another track called "On Production."

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that it's "Biology 101." I'm sorry to say I no longer even own a tape player, so I can't verify, but I know the one you uploaded was indeed on the cassette and the lyrics talk briefly about biology. Which means I'm not entirely sure what "On Production" is.
'Dropping the skills on production, your mind gets splattered already headed for corruption" Yea,I had that tape, too. I'm pretty sure that 'On Production' was on the og pressing of the Dr. Octagon vinyl, too. Not positive, you know how shit gets re pressed and changed up. And discogs fucks up every once in a while. Oh well.
Verge, could you upload your vinyl rip of Dr. Octagon?

im a little confused about this track --> Spalaney's 05 Universal Language.mp3 <-- i have this track already (from roy johnson) and it's labled as "indigenous theory - styles are universal" he hooked it up when iasked him for any I.T. Indigenous Theory, after i heard them shouted out in the rubberoom track 'the pit'.

which name is right?

Posted: Thu Feb 12, 2009 11:32 pm

the track on talent fest is indeed Spalaney's "Universal Language". Indigenous Theory "Styles are universal" is a completely different song from a completely different group. Indigenous Theory is Grav (a.k.a Gravity) and Black Man Zeke (who was one of my artists). They recorded 4 songs together in the early 90s and did a few shows then split up.

i see what happened now, i mixed those files up because the indigenous theory track is actual connected with that spalaneys track (from chicago joints folder you posted) and plays after it. so when i looked at my playlist after recognizng it i saw it labled as spalayneys.

fooled by my own playlist.

good way to bring this up though, have any indigenous theory? :gyeah:
