Reminisce about the golden era of hip-hop.

But Life and Death, yeah, word, that's a five mic album.
Gtfo

Could have at least gave Resurrection 4 mics, at least.
The gave Da Shinin 3 mics. lol

I think it's just that standards have changed too. Like I said, 3.5 means the album is dope. They def dropped the ball with some but they were on some real strict shit back then.

I guess so.
I mean, they were dead on with Illmatic's 5 mic article.
They knew that had to get 5 mics.

I still don't see Aquemini over Moment Of Truth, though.
But, then again, east coast bias should my screen name. heh

Definitely agree. By that time, they were all about ad revenues with those huge magazines. So they were going with popularity. Gangstarr was old news to them.

Runaway Slave for sure. I think the quality of that album has been rated fairly accurately, but the relevance of it seems/seemed to elude many critics.

Lots of good selections on here.

More than a reminder of what were classic albums, this thread just reminds me of how awful the Source is/has been. Straight trash. I really think they helped usher in the crap-hop that we have today.

Those early years were dope, but then something shifted behind the scenes, and it became like poison for real hip-hop.

I remember some cats thought it was taken over by a COINTELPRO/CIA covert op. LOL!

I suspect calls for anything post-1999 would draw howls of disgust from the luddites of T.R.O.Y (i mean that in the nicest way possible) so i daren't mention anything after then. Here's some from '82 - '99 :

.
Out of morbid curiosity, what post-1999 albums do you think fit the bill?
Oh, you know - Supreme Clientele and that B. Legit album from 2003.

I find it amazing that all these albums didn't get 5, but Lil' Kim - Naked Truth did. Fucking jokers.
