^^^I hadnt seen it in years myself. Its kinda weird looking at it today.

Things have changed so much that I can see the humor in it and it isnt as depressing, but I remember at the time of its release, just the song thematically, the lo-fi production of the video, the fact that nobody'd seen FL in a minute and this is how he pops back up...yeah I purposely avoided watching that vid or listening to the song for a quite some time.

Agreed, of course. Was just saying obviously FatLip and Jonze were going for some elements of humor in the video and being 12 years removed from it, I can chuckle a lot more than I did upon my initial viewing.

Couldn't check the youtube links so I dunno if these were mentioned, but Black Rob's Life Story (is that the title?) is sad as hell, plus maybe Teflon's Game of Life.
Kool Keith: I wore a straw hat with a feather to the last Source Awards. When I got to Madison Square Garden everybody was looking at me. When I got back home I seen everybody and their mother in their video wearing a fuckinג€™ straw hat with a feather in it.

Tim Dog: ג€œWhat Kool Keith gonna wear? Iג€™m gonna do that shit in my video. Iג€™m gonna wear that shit really quick. Whatג€™s Tim Dog gonna wear?ג€

I wouldn't class that Nine track as depressing, has more of a desperation vibe. Do or die / make or take. Always loved the beat but most of his lyrics are disappointing on the track, the hook probably makes it.

That joint's cool but do you mean "Permanent Scars"? I can't find it on youtube but it was on philas "greatest 100 obscure tracks" from a while back.
Here's an untagged version:
<object type='application/x-shockwave-flash' data='http://on.hulkcdn.com/static/embed.swf' height='24' width='290' id='wiyrxkejo5yf'><param name='movie' value='http://on.hulkcdn.com/static/embed.swf'/><param name='FlashVars' value='soundFile=http://hulkshare.com/ap-wiyrxkejo5yf.mp ... yf'><param name='quality' value='high'><param name='menu' value='false'><param name='wmode' value='transparent'></object>
Anyone know the sample for that? I heard some girl from my job playing it in her car, sounded like some 90's RnB.
more info on the BR track here..

Nah, I meant the Black Rob 'Life Story' track, did I get the name wrong? It's the one with the Roy Ayers Sensitize sample, if I'm right-the one O.C.'s Hypocrite track sampled. For some reason that Black Rob track is sad as fuck.

yeah, thinkin about it, a lot of their beats were dark/depressing:
<object width="420" height="75"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/uzMW1zD1a_4?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/uzMW1zD1a_4?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="75" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

introspective? the beat is more inspirational than depressing tho:
<object width="420" height="75"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/swsIZH5UiPk?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/swsIZH5UiPk?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="75" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Don't think it's been mentioned, but Geto Boys' "Six Feet Deep" sticks out to me.

Slug of Atmosphere has a lot of these songs.

But yo I've never heard anyone put more emotion into the mic than DMX or Ghostface. You can feel it.

can someone think of a song that would be an appropriate contender to it in a vote type thread?
