Keith Murray 'The Rhyme' original unreleased version

Post by step one »

I had this for years on a Stretch & Bobbito tape - i think it was of their first Hot 97 show - and always preferred it to the released version (I remember being a bit disappointed when I got the 12").

I picked this up recently and what Im told was a Japanese only white label, the beat is different with an Ohio Players 'Funky Worm' sample in the chorus. Never seen it listed or posted anywhere so thought I'd share it.

The flipside of this 12" is Erick Sermon 'Its My Thing 97' which I can up if anyone wants it.

im guessing Erick Sermon. theres a remix on the official 12" by The Ummah though. is it just me or does the sample sound the same as 'Hip Hop Hooray' ?

definitely. this version was kind of a holy grail for me though. If it had been on the official 12" it wouldnt have been an issue! I had it on that one Stretch tape so after 12 years it was nice to have it appear in my local store like that

Good find. I have a soft spot in my heart for the Dilla version, because well it flips Nautilus ... and the motherfucker DIED, yo!

But on the reals, this version is cool, too.

Been looking for this for years! Had this on a long-lost mixtape years ago and really liked the vibe of the song. Whenever I asked for it, Id always get the inferior "official remix". Thanks for this, great stuff.

I don't remember this version at all. Good shit, step one.
Yea, I'm pretty positive it's the same sample as hip hop hooray:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SHH_EMeRjGA&hl ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SHH_EMeRjGA&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Apparently a bunch of stuff sampled it:

Thank You...Much Appreciated

I remember this version was on the DJ EV mixtape "Hotter This Year" back in '96. He used to live on the same block as Erick Sermon and used to get mad exclusives.
