I like that dark beat, props. But the vocals are off beat, unless im wrong and it was done purposely.

I've never heard this until now. It was taken from a DJ Homocide Mixtape that Tapemasta posted on his blog not too long ago. He only posted Side A and this was the first track on the mix. Haven't listened any further so I'm not sure what else is on it but I'll check... Enjoy the rugged nugget!

I dunno but the bass line sounds a lot like this, imo:
<object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/TLy7Q1sZzG4?ve ... ram><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TLy7Q1sZzG4?version=3&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
possibly..sped up, filtered out and a little chopped, not sure though

Basement Khemists

Post by BLAKETHOUGHT »

I know this was asked a couple years ago on this forum, but have there been any new updates on Basement Khemists material? There's the 5 discussed & posted before: Everybody, Petrified, I'm Doin Ya, Vibrate, Correct Technique and 2 others listed on discogs (http://www.discogs.com/Basement-Khemist ... se/2675938) from a cassette on Heat Mob Records: B4 and 2 of mixes of Kansas City, none of which I can't find a sample of and have never heard of before tonight. So anyone have any updates? Any news of an unreleased album? Any info would be great, thanks.

^Aha so it's a Basement Khemist joint; all this time I thought it was early Heet Mob ish. Never caught that discogs entry. A Heet Mob affiliate dropped a Khemist mini-bio here:

http://www.thetroyblog.com/2009/12/13/t ... mment-4476

Scroll down for my comment. I asked him about one of the Kansas City joints but received no reply. When I find that radio rip I'll post it

I believe this is the track called Kansas City, recorded betw. 99-00 from the Underground Railroad

Aleph, thanks for the info and track, much appreciated. But check this from an interview I read a while back:

"Planet: At one point you were signed to Elektra records right? Between what years?
Max: Yes, between 95-98

Planet: Were there any recordings that were done for Elektra that have never surfaced? The Domecracker album right? What happened with that? Was it during the time when Elektra had a management change and they were dropping groups from right to left? Give us the lowdown...
Max: Yes, there's a Basement Khemist album. The Domecrackers album is a work in progress that will have a 2006 release. The B. K'.s were dropped after being shelved for a year. Personally I was glad, because during the recording of the album, I was priveledged to receive a copy of the INI album (on cass. tape, 95.) and felt that we needed to overhaul what we were doing to uphold the kind of quality that was put into the INI effort.

Planet: You had a Domecracker 12" single release that dropped in 2004. Will there ever be more singles or an album release for the Domecrackers?
Max: Yes, 2006- new album, Two new singles that will not be on the album, as well as, various other treats.
"

Here's the interview in its entirety that dates back to '05: http://wilshiredistrict.blogspot.com/20 ... c-max.html

The sad thing is he talks about stepping up their game after hearing INI and that material didn't officially get released through Elektra either. A Basement Khemists album and a Domecrackers album both missing the necessary air play. Someone has to release these, can't even imagine how good these would sound.

Slum Village - "Tell Me What..." (early demo)

Post by claaa7 »

"TELL ME WHAT YOU WANT" @ YOUTUBE

Check out this previously unreleased song by Slum Village called "Tell Me What You Want". Very interesting as this seems to be one of the very first Slum Village songs recorded, probably '94 or something like that. Pretty damn dope shit too! Posted by Wajeed @ Bling47.com who added the following comments on the song:

"While some consider Dillaג€™s strong suit to be production, others look to his rhyming for inspiration. This early Slum Village track, ג€œTell Me What You Wantג€ is a fine example of his ill penmanship. It was one of the first efforts as Baatin, T3 and Dilla came out of the Senepod crew name and became Slum Village. At the time Dilla didnג€™t even have a drum machine, so this beat was actually made using the ג€œpause and recordג€ tape method. It was never released."

also in case you missed the previous Dilla rarities Wajeed posted about a week ago, don't sleep!! there's two remixes of the '96 R&B track "Let it Go" by Ray J, both seriously ill and then there's a self-produced freestyle by Dilla. Wajeed is also relaunching Bling47, the label that released the Dilla Instrumental series around 2002.

The Slum demo sounds cool, nothing major like what was on Fantastic but instead something that sounded like they were just having fun and trying to find their musical identity. I remember one of the things I anticipated most when Fat Beats record store was still open was to pickup an unreleased 12" of Slum material, they and Bling47 were good at keep the shelves stocked with bonus music when Dilla was on a roll.

yeah it sounds like the bass knocks a little better and the lyrics are a little crisper in this rip.
