The crazy thing is these dudes were all like 16 at the time.

The Emcee Mechanism stuff can be found on "DJ Too Tuff's Lost Archives" and the "Back To Wreck Shop" LP.

Also check out the links for each individual member. For instance, L.A. Kidd produced the classic Krown Rulers "Paper Chase" album.

Nice find. Couple of bangers on their page.
Couple of wack joints, too, but so what.
Was there a link to the album there, I missed?

And I added: Absent Minded, All in All, Biggie, Eminem (plus update), J Rock, Last Emperor, Rawcotiks, Thirstin Howl III, and The Uncanny.
Archived as (Year, Month) Name.jpg.

Re: Unsigned Hype
Thanks brother. A bunch of 'em might be changed to N / A after we discover that there were none that month but right now I'm not sure.
Also not sure when the cut-off should be for us but I figured the Eminem update was a good stopping point, considering a bunch of people probably quit reading around then.

Thanks Debonair, I updated the list. Now we're down to two question marks and thirteen missing ones. And if anybody wants to add any from after March of '98 (or confirm that May '90 is the first one), feel free.

^ Ha, yeah I thought was funny too.
HipHopInfinity, I don't think Jay-Z was ever in Unsigned Hype - pretty sure his first couple singles were reviewed though.

Yeah i wasn't sure. I think it was a review of his single now that you mention it. They might have mentioned that he was unsigned at the time.
Re: Unsigned Hype
Great thread! I got few issues around 95-98 (someone already post who was there) and many around 1999-2001. This could be awesome if we can split "Unsigned Hype" and that column "Indepedent's Day" in one place

Also, just looking at Thimk (props to Vincent Lopez) can confirm:

Re: Unsigned Hype
Right on everybody, updated.
STAM, just to be clear, are you adding what you have / know or are you saying that the other months (after March) in '98 and through '99 have no Unsigned Hype in them?
I'm thinkin' we try to meet up with the February '02 Eminem Update so anything from '98 through 2001 (and I guess including January of 2002 if there is anything) is all good.Debonair_P wrote:I should be able to get the missing ones I mentioned scanned over the weekend... Thanks STAM.
Here's what we had from the beginning of '98 before:
(Jan '98) Unsigned Hype Retrospective *missing*
(Feb '98) N / A
(Mar '98) Eminem
And now other than the question marks, it looks like we're into 2000 next.

Here's a link to 12 new scans (including a couple from 98-99), can you add these to the main folder BigSleep? I have a few more up to 2002 which I'll get to eventually.

Also, what you have listed for early 98 is correct BigSleep - Mar '98 (Lox cover) was the issue with Eminem.

Gladly. Both the list and the download link have now been updated, thanks for comin' through man.
Also, while we're being completists, I wouldn't mind a scan of the part in the September 1990 issue where it says "Unfortunately we didn't get anything good enough to make it into this month's issue."

Thanks man, I'll up some more 98 - 02 stuff next week (plus I think I missed scanning a couple of missing things from earlier issues.)
Also the Nov 98 issue has an ad for an Unsigned Hype compilation on Polygram Records - does anyone have that? It's not in Discogs, but the ad mentions it has a song by 'Steve' which I'd like to check out.

Sounds good brother, whenever works.
Did a quick search for that comp, nobody seems to be talkin' about it from what I saw. If you wanna scan up that ad next time you up stuff, that'd be cool.
